I love jewelry, but I’m not very girlie. I’m more of a wooden-bead-necklace, simple-silver-hoop-earrings kind of mama. So when I first saw Lisa Leonard Designs featured here and there around the blogosphere, I wanted something of hers right. away.
I’ve always wanted one of those mommy-type of necklaces or bracelets – you know, the kind that embellish your kids’ names on a charm or beads. But I’ve never really found any that were my type. They’re always too… girlie. Too cutesy and bubbly.
That’s why I LOVE Lisa’s designs. They’re sweet and feminine, but they’re not frou-frou. She hammers the sterling silver into something unique and personal – the rustic, handmade feel is trademark to her style. And whether you personalize it with your kids’ names or something else altogether, it will be the only piece of jewelry of its kind, because she hand crafts each one individually.
You really need to go to her store and check out her stuff. Well, read the rest of this post, and then head over there.
How’s this for some eye candy?

And guess what?
Lisa is offering one Simple Mom reader a FREE necklace!
She will make you a handcrafted “tiny squares” necklace (shown at left) with whatever words you want emblazened on the squares. A cream freshwater pearl adds that dollop of femininity I love. This piece of jewelry is valued at $46. I’m getting this very necklace with my two kidlet’s names. I’m so excited!
Here’s how you can enter to win:
1. Leave a comment on this post – tell me your favorite summertime activity.
2. Be sure your comment has a valid e-mail address attached to it!
3. To be entered a second time: subscribe to my feed and look for the secret code at the bottom of any post. E-mail me with the secret code in the subject line to simplemomblog [at] gmail [dot] com.
4. To be entered a third time: share the news about this giveaway on your blog, and either trackback to this post or e-mail with the post’s link.
4. You may enter starting today, May 22 until Sunday, May 25 at midnight Central Standard time. I’ll randomly draw a name and announce the winner on Monday, May 26.
Be sure to explore Lisa’s blog as well. She shares her family’s heartwarming story about her oldest son and his journey through CdLS. A great mama, indeed!
Have fun, and I hope YOU win! No no, not you, the one over there, with the goofy grin on your face. Yes, YOU.

My favorite summertime activity is relaxing in the shade and chatting about everything and nothing with my kids.
My favorite is days at my grandparents cabin by the lake with kids splashing in the water and adults chatting nearby. So comfortable and wrapped in family.
My favorite summertime activity? Playing 4 square in the driveway with the kids. It’s fun. It’s active. The risks of injury are small. And a non-athlete like me can actually play.

My favorite summer activity is making a surprise stop at a playground with my two kids. I pack a picnic lunch and a picnic blanket in the trunk of my car and tell them we’re going to run errands. Then after I tell them we have “just one last stop” I pull into the parking lot and cheer “yay–here’s our last stop!” They love getting “tricked” like this.
the jewelry is amazing! i would love to have any of the pieces! especially one with my kids names on it! my favorite summertime activity is going to the beach…hands down…we try to go every other week. we go to dillon beach near bodega bay. It’s a quiet beach and we love that…the water is too cold to swim but we picnic and walk along the shore…sometimes the kids skim board.
Beautiful! My absolutely favorite summer activity is to pack up nice and early on those sunny days and head to the beach (lake). The kids are entertained and I can read my book, it’s a win win!

One of my favorite summertime activities is to go to Stokes State Forest (in NJ) and hike on part of the Appalachian Trail (OK, I admit, its only about 500 ft of the trail if that much!
)and sit at the scenic overlook and just look at the beauty of NJ! (yes, there are parts of NJ that are really nice!)
My favorite summertime activity is going to San Jose Family Camp with my best friends, and all of our children. It is a week of fun, sun, laughter, and no cooking for the moms!
Do I still get a chance to win if I have more than ONE favorite summertime activity ??? LOL
1-Well, I think in the beginning of summer, when the herbs/flowers are breaking through, my favorite thing to do is teach my children (and learn too) and “guess” which flower is which-before it gets big and familiar or before it blooms and gives itself away. So, that is one fun fav.
Another is lying under a sheet in the yard and napping, which I rarely get to do with my 3 boys running around, but it is a very cherished thing to do in the summer when it happens.

WOW! I like this necklace. Wouldn’t it be great with all the grandkids names? (I know, I may not be eligible – being your mom and all.) But my favorite summer activity would be to be in the Colorado mountains at a log cabin with a clear stream running by sitting in a comfortable chair outside listening to the birds and the sound of grandkids giggles. Oh, back to reality… How about a picnic at Zilker.
I love the farmers market in the summertime… and going back each week to see what wonderful new fruit is at it’s peak. Sampling all the fresh yumminess. All the families. The music. The children and the old folks dancing “like nobody’s watching”.

My favorite summer memory/tradition is making small floats for our neighborhood parade on the 4th of July. We started this tradition with some friends when our kids were less than a year old. The first float was made out of a pack n play on wheels (we added) adorned with streamers, balloons and all things red, white and blue. Inside were 2 little infants enjoying the ride. Afterwards we bbq on our block with all of our neighbors! So fun!

My current favorite activity is sitting outside on a lawn chair watching the kids play in a wadding pool. It amazes me that they can be completely entertained in area that is no bigger than 10 by 4 for hours on end with nothing more than water, a few balls and old tupperware. Gotta love cheap summer fun.
My favorite summertime activity are daytrips with my family. My husband has fridays off during the summer and we live about an hour outside of LA, so we try to take advantage of all the fun things there are to do in the city, yet we still get to go home at the end of the day! I love to do this! The necklace is beautiful and there’s nothing this mom loves more then to “wear” her kids! Thanks for offering this!

Living in Minnesota, summers are short but relished! When I was young we would go live out that the lake with my grandparents. My whole family would go. We would leave when school got out in the spring and come back in when it started in the fall. My grandparents home was only a 45 minute drive away but it felt like an eternity when first going out there. I coudn’t wait to go boating, swimming, playing with my friends I had made the summers before. My grandparents sold their place when I was 13. Summers just weren’t the same without going to the lake.
Irronically, I met my husband on that same lake many year later. Who was I to know that that lake would be my destiny!

Beautiful jewelry. I love going to the beach with my family, but besides that, we love spending time in our backyard. Being out of school with no agenda we can sleep late, then mid morning we set up the slip and slide and sprinkler, they splash around on that, then sometimes we play in the sandbox or jump on the trampoline. or swingset. The simple joy of watching them play together and laugh fills my heart with gladness. Summertime is the absolute best time of the year.

I know it’s summer when we start making watermelon juice. It’s easy and s-o-o-o good on a hot day. It’s our favorite thing to have around.
Take a cold watermelon and scrub the outside. Slice straight across the belly or end to end, either way opens it up. Then quarter each half and cut the flesh from the rind. Don’t worry about the seeds as they will come out with the pulp.
Slice the flesh into long rectangles (less pieces to run through the juicer) and proceed to juice. There will be a foam that gathers at the top. Carefully scoop it up in a spoon and toss the foam in the sink. I find the bubbles in the foam cause the juice to oxidize faster and not last as long.
One Hempstead watermelon usually fills 2-64 oz juice bottles. Be sure to refrigerate quickly and enjoy. BTW, you can do the same with cantaloupe. The result is a bit thicker juice and very tasty.
memories of swinging so high at my granny’s is the best
Summer for me always means camp- whether going to camp as a child, working summers there as a teen, or leading as camp president as an adult our summers always revolve around Delanco Camp and its ministry.
Ok, this one I thought about for a couple of days..

2. sandcastle building..or attempting too anyway
3. swimmers.,seeing my kids in them, all day just about.
4. watermelon dripping down your arms
5. sleeping under the fan in fresh crisp cotton sheets
5 wearing thongs, everywhere.
And probably my favourite, is the sprinkler…the kids, the backyard a beautiful scorching hot summer day, the sprinkler doing its thing and oh the laughs…
