So far during our Cloth Diapering 101 week, you’ve heard about the different types of cloth diapers available, why you should at least consider cloth diapers, answers to common misconceptions about cloth diapers, and two videos that show you how to use and clean them. Today, I’m going to review the cloth diaper brands I recommend.
This list is not exhaustive. There are many, many cloth diaper brands that do a great job, and have their superiority for any wide variety of reasons. But I don’t want to review something I haven’t actually tried, so today’s information is solely based on my personal experience. In the comments section, feel free to use similar criteria to add your $.02 about another brand you like.
The reviewed criteria are absorbency, cost, overall fit, drying time (on a clothesline), the cute factor, the company’s customer service, and Dad and Grandparent-friendliness. This last category is contributed by my husband, who rated each diaper based on his first-hand experience. Hesitant dads, grandparents, and other caregivers is a major consideration with cloth diapers, so it’s important to give honest feedback regarding a diaper’s ease of use.
I’ve rated the diapers in each category from one to five clothespins. Here are the definitions:

• Perfect Size Diaper from FuzziBunz (Pocket Diaper)

This is a great diaper from FuzziBunz. It’s the one we have the most quantity of, so we use one of these almost daily. They’re a cinch to snap, and the shape is great around the legs — we’ve never had a blow-out with one of these. My son is skinny, so the caboose is a little loose, but that means there’s plenty of room to add a doubler or extra insert at night. These are one of the fastest-drying diapers we have, and the customer service is wonderful. I’ve interacted with them a few times, and they’ve always responded very quickly to my emails. FuzziBunz is a great company.
I also love their other products I have. We use their hanging diaper pail, and we’ve never had an odor problem. After we wash it with the diapers, it dries really quickly. We carry their travel wet bag in our diaper bag, so the few times we’ve needed it, there’s never been a smell issue — you can’t tell anything’s in your diaper bag. This comes in handy in other ways, too, since it’s waterproof — our older daughter wet her underwear and jeans one time, and we just tossed them in there until we got home. It can also go in the wash.
I like their wipes, too. With their Organic Double-Sided Wipes, one side is cotton and the other side is a soft fleece. They work great for getting off poop, especially in combo with homemade diaper wipe solution.
Overall, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything by FuzziBunz.
• 3.0 One-Size Diaper from BumGenius (Pocket Diaper)

This is a great, quick-drying diaper that fits my trim baby really well. We’ve never had an explosion in this one, either, and the Aplix (super-strong velcro) stays put. I only have one of these diapers, but I’m happy every time I use it. The insert has snaps so that you can optionally shorten the insert and make it thicker in the front, which is great for a boy. And because you can adjust the size with the snaps in front, you only need one set of these diapers to last from birth to potty.
BumGenius is very popular with cloth diapering mamas, so even though it’s on the pricey side, you might be able to find secondhand diapers on the internet.
• Blueberry One-Size Bamboo Velour Diaper from Swaddlebees (Pocket Diaper)

This is quite the luxurious diaper from Swaddlebees! It’s easily adjustable for any size you need, and the inside is a super-soft organic bamboo cotton blend. The Aplix is really strong, too. The best thing about this diaper is the inserts — each diaper comes with two! One is smaller, for the really young age, and the second one is longer that snaps together as a trifold. You can use the smaller insert as a doubler at night, so you’ve essentially got four layers going on. Each layer is really thin but absorbent — this is often our nighttime diaper.
My only complaint is the cost. It’s one of the pricier pocket diapers out there, so if you’re interested in Swaddlebees, you could first look secondhand.
• Side Snapping Diaper from BottomBumpers (All-In-One Diaper)

BottomBumpers as more of a hybrid of a pocket and AIO, because BottomBumpers includes a soaker that snaps on top of the inside. It’s a double-folded, super-soft organic cotton padding topped with bamboo velour. It’s a breeze to snap in because you don’t even need to reach inside. But what I love best about these diapers is the fit — for my slim little man, these are the best-fitting diapers we have. They contour wonderfully between the legs, and the side snaps keep it nice and trim on the bottom.
Again, the only issue is the cost. But for an AIO, it’s not bad. And I love that I’m supporting a small cottage industry run by a mom.
• Bamboozle from Bummis (Fitted Diaper)

Oh my goodness, I love this diaper from Bummis. This diaper has four layers of bamboo, which means it’s compact yet super-absorbent. It is unbelievably soft! I love that a 100% bamboo is so eco-friendly — bamboo is a renewable resource with a very short growth cycle and it is grown without fertilizers or pesticides. Plus, it’s breathable, cool, and absorbs 60% more than cotton. This is one of our favorite diapers, and I’d have more if it weren’t for the cost. Still, I love how slim-fitting these diapers are. There’s absolutely no puffy bum here. He’s wearing this diaper under the Imse Vimse Organic Wrap photo, reviewed below.
• Organic Cotton Prefolds from Bummis (Prefold Diaper)

These are the prefolds that come with Bummis’ Organic Cotton Diaper Kit, a complete diapering system in a box. These unbleached prefolds are super absorbent and soft, and they’re a great size for my son — he’s wearing one under the Bummis Super Brite Wrap photo, reviewed below. So far, they’ve held up very well. As we’ve mentioned all week, the best benefit of prefolds is the cost — they’re definitely the cheapest cloth diaper available. But I also love their versatility — you can fold them a myriad of ways to fit your baby, and depending on the wrap you use, you could hold it together with a Snappi or simply hold it securely within the wrap. Don’t be intimidated by the idea of prefolds. Once you get the hang of them, diaper changing goes really quickly.
The main downside is possible reluctance from dads, grandparents, or other caregivers. If this is the case, and you want to mostly use prefolds and wraps, I’d recommend still using a few pockets or AIOs, and they can use these when it’s their turn.
• Super Brite Wrap and Super Whisper Wrap from Bummis (Diaper Cover/Wrap)

Bummis makes great wraps! I love both my Super Brite wrap in Blue and my Super Whisper wrap in Froggy Pond. They fit really well around a Bamboozle or a prefold, and the gussets around the legs has meant no leaks at all. I also like that there’s a little pocket in front so that you can slip in a prefold without Snappis. The Aplix on these guys are also the strongest I’ve seen — there’s no way my son could ever take this off. And since these are quite popular wraps, you’re likely to find some secondhand.
• Organic Cotton Cover from Imse Vimse (Diaper Cover/Wrap)

This is a very lightweight, soft cover with the most adorable farm print. I think this is my favorite in the cute department! The hook and closure front is softer, but our son has never been able to remove this. I do wish there were inside velcro tabs to close up the velcro for wash time, but it’s no problem just to adhere it to the front. This cover also fits my son perfectly – there’s no bagginess, and the gussets in the legs work wonderfully. It’s a bit pricier than other wraps, but if you’re going for cute, you can’t go wrong with these covers.
gDiapers (Hybrid Diaper)

If the thought of cloth diapers still seems challenging to you, then perhaps a hybrid diaper is your answer. gDiapers consist of a washable, cotton outer ‘little g’ pant and a plastic-free flushable diaper refill. They are made of breathable material just like sports clothing. So the outside is a simple cotton cover, and inside is a detachable waterproof liner. Inside the liner, you add a flushable diaper insert, which makes the diaper absorbent. When it’s dirty, you can either flush the insert, compost it (it breaks down in 50-150 days), or even toss it in the trash — there’s no plastic, so it’s biodegradable. You should still toss poop in the toilet, though.
I thought these would be harder than they were. Putting in the inserts were just as easy as refilling a pocket diaper, and the simple procedure behind flushing the insert is easy, once you get the hang of it. gDiapers’ website has a video on how the process works, and their customer service is fabulous — I called them with questions, and the woman on the phone was friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful.
My main complaint is the cost. These diapers are expensive. If your driving factor behind using cloth diapers is cost, then gDiapers aren’t for you. You can buy them locally at a wide variety of stores like Whole Foods, but the refill inserts still average about $.47. Quite a bit more than standard disposables. Until their price is lowered, I can’t really use gDiapers. But their covers work great as wraps for prefolds, and they’re super cute.
In addition to all these diapers, I also highly recommend using Snappis, Bummis BioSoft Liners, Imse Vimse Flushable Liners, and Soapnuts for cleaning. Many of you use all kinds of products, so please share your recommendations in the comments section. We can make this post a resource guide for people overwhelmed by their choices. So please contribute all you can!

Because of costs, I have decided to go with prefolds and Diaper Covers. I use a variety of covers… Thirsties, Bummis, Imse Vimse… and I like them all.
Our little guy has been using BumGenius diapers for several months. I love them and don’t see the extra loads of laundry as extra work. Work would be having to make a midnight run to the drugstore to pick up a pack of disposables. We’ve even been on several trips using the cloth diapers. I love walking through the baby section of the store and seeing the racks of costly diapers and giving myself an internal high-five and thinking “I don’t have to spend money on diapers anymore!”
Oh, and if you put your CD’s and reuseable wipes on your baby registry, then diapering baby costs next to nothing! So start early!
i am seriously leaning towards using cloth with our 3rd baby due in October. Your posts have really pushed me in that direction so it seems like a no brainer. It would be great to jump start a cloth diaper collection by winning some!
I’ve been using cloth diapers for two years now, and I LOVE them. I started off with prefolds, then tried a couple store-bought pockets, and finally began sewing my own dipers. For store-bought, I always keep coming back to my prefolds – they are just so versatile! For the wraps, I like wonder wraps, as they’re one-size. If you’re interested in sewing your own, there are a lot of great patterns out there (free and non). One of the few one-size patterns is from Kaylasclothkits.com Once you start sewing your own it’s a whole new addicting world of fabrics and patterns

I am so excited to need some new cloth diapers! shhh…we just found out
This will be my 4th child in Cloth….we donated our last nappies, as we thought we were done! Suprise! I really loved these second hand contoured diapers we had with a Bummis Whisper Wrap. They were super easy, cleaned up nicely, and fit well. Thanks for the giveaway!

I have not used cloth diapers in the past, but am expecting my second child in November and have decided to give them a try! I really like the idea of cutting down on some of the cost a new baby brings into the household! (On the plus side, I think they’re pretty cute too!!)
We are having our first child in November. My mom always used cloth diapers and I have been considering it, but I was afraid it was going to be more work than its worth. Thanks for the reviews and shedding some light on how its not as difficult as one might think. Now I just need to get my husband on board.
We started using cloth diapers on our daughter when she was about six months old (she is now almost 13 months). We have purchased 12 medium FuzziBunz, which we like… but now that she is moving, I find that they leak more, because the stuffing shifts around. (She scoots around on her bum!) We also have a number of Kushies, which I quite like. (We actually have Kushies, Kooshies, and Cushies, because we have new ones along with hand-me-downs and conseignment store purchases… the company keeps changing the spelling!)
I am new to using cloth (and this is my 4th child!). I used some no-name AO1′s for the first few weeks and am now using GroBaby. They are a bit bulky on a newborn, but contain everything & clean well. I think I’ll really like them once I don’t have to fold over the soaker. I’d love to have some others to try. Thanks for all the great info!
I use cloth diapers with my son who is 26mos and will with the new one on the way in Sept. I love my CDs. My favorite is just a GMD prefold with a Thirsties cover. You really cannot beat the Thirsties cover.
My first baby is due in 4 months and I had wanted to give cloth nappies a go, but was put off by the initial up front cost of fitted cloth nappies. I’m definitely going to give pre-folds a go first because it would seem a lot of people are really impressed by them!
I used fuzzi bunz and loved them – except they seemed to leak urine on really little babies. And the elastic wore out after one child – I had to get a new set for my second baby. So I’d love to win some diapers for next time around!
allie´s last blog post…How to Make Friends
I’m giving birth anytime now and I never used CDs with my other two. I was very young and my mother told me it was just easier to go disposable with my hectic school/work/home schedule.
For this little girl, I really want to try it. Thanks for the comparisons, it’s very useful! There is a CD service in my city, but I don’t see the eco-friendly in having a delivery truck pick up and replace my CDs every week if it’s really as easy as doing laundry at home. I’m still biting my nails over which kind of brand of CDs to use and which type to settle down with(but I’m getting closer). I think the pocket/insert types really call to me since I won’t have to fold, pin, and cover the CD.
I will surely be out buying a few types to try for myself. I would love to find the bamboo fabric to make inserts or the bamboo lined CDs if I can. I’ve yet to find any in stores around me.
I’m seriously considering cloth diapering mainly (apart from the obvious economic and environmental factors) because since moving to the US 4 months ago, every disposable brand I’ve tried has still resulted in what we call ‘pooh-throughs’ (leaking and staining clothes) at least once a week. I figure, if I’m cleaning and washing pooh-y clothes, I might as well use cloth diapers. And the tip for using disposable liners to contain the poohs has been an extra incentive!
I’ve also been considering the try-it-out program offered through Jillian’s Drawers (http://www.jilliansdrawers.com) where you pay $110 for a range of cloth diapers, get 21 days to try them out and see which ones you like best, then can return them and get $100 back and free shipping on your next order.
Seems like a good way to trial a few different brands before making a final decision on what works.
I have a 5yo who’s still struggling with toilet training, so I’d be willing to try almost anything that promises to make it easier for his little brother. Plus, I have to admit that this series has totally changed my perceptions of cloth diapering — I’d love to give it a try!
Thanks for all the great information and this awesome giveaway!!
I did not cloth diaper with my first. I started 2 1/2 years ago with my second and I now have her and her baby sister in cloth as well. In October, I might have 3 in cloth if the 2 1/2 year old hasn’t potty trained yet. I had to down grade my LOVE of bumGenius to like because they are not a true one size. The elastic only lasts about 15 months. I have friends who have had it replaced for a minimal cost and it is still cheaper than disposables but I wanted a TRUE one size. I wanted a diaper I could use on 2 different sized babies at the same time that would last through more than one child. I found that with Motherease One Size fitteds. They are super absorbent, affordable (less than $15), and super durable. I love them with Thirsties covers. I still like bumGenius, they are great and I use them, but they are not a long term workhorse diaper. Also, I just use baby washcloths for wipes and they are WAY cheaper than buying the cloth wipes. They work just as well. Anyone contemplating cloth dipes will not regret making the switch. I’m not Holly Housekeeper or Suzy Tree Hugger but I’ve found this to be so so worth it.
we cloth diaper when we are home. we have a very small stash that we go through in one day but it still saves us money. the one size bum genius are our favs with prefolds and covers as our back-ups. i use the prefolds to dry my baby between diaper changes, too.
i’m expecting my first and would LOVE to use cloth diapers…they’re adorable, and i’ve heard they’re so soft on babies bottoms. i think they’re the best option for me and my baby and i can’t wait to use them!
i’ve so enjoyed these posts…THANK YOU!
We just started using cloth diapers on our 10 month old son to save money, plus the “green factor.” I just bought my first stash (from craigslist, and was so excited when the lady had 1 Fuzzi Bunz left.) It is my favorite, otherwise we are using very generic white cloth diapers with velcro, and fleece inserts.
I also posted on my blog.
Nicole Foster´s last blog post…Charlotte’s Birthday Celebrations
I just wanted to say that reading this info about cloth diapers gives me a tangible vision for using cloth diapers. I have several family members who use them, so now that I am expecting I wanted to seriously consider the idea. This site gives a great perspective for those who have none. Thank you!
I was so uneducated about cloth diapering. I believed it was a true inconvenience and just not a viable option for us. I think I was totally wrong and so willing to try.
We started using Cloth when DD was about 13 months. I wanted when she was born…but could not decide what to get. It was so overwhelming!
So when I found out I was preggo w/DS I just bought a little of each off diaperswappers.
We like the Bum Genius for going out and about. Fuzzi Bunz work well too. Around the house we use fitted diapers. Since I sew I made some fitteds & wool soakers. I love fitted diapers with the cute prints!
Now our stash has a bit of everything! Pockets, Fitteds, Prefolds. I really do not like All in Ones only because they take forever to dry…
The best thing is you can sell them when your done..try that with sposies!!
I also use Bottombumpers and like them. I also recommend Dream Eze fitteds and AIO’s, and the prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers – SO soft and absorbant with a better selection of sizes! Imse Vimse organic cotton velour covers are dreamy as well.
I have not been able to use cloth diapers, but I would absolutely LOVE to try them out, mostly because every time I throw a disposable in the trash can I feel guilty…
So I would love to try!
My daughter is almost 6 months old and we have CD’ed her for about the last three months. It is something that I wanted to try when she was born but she had some medical complications and we got a late start. We have the traditional pre-folds with thirsties wraps and Fuzzi Bunz. We LOVE the Fuzzi Bunz! She is on the petite side and has thin legs and they work perfectly! I am so glad that we decided to CD her. I totally recommend buying the rice paper liners… we recently started her on solids and this makes it even easier!
I already commented, but wanted to update that I posted on my blog, showing it as the latest blog entry.
Nicole´s last blog post…Cloth Diapering
We use high quality prefolds with Bummis covers. I have never needed to try anything else. They were cheap and work fantastically. Also, the used prefolds make THE BEST cleaning rags if you are not planning on another kid.
I’ve been wanting to try a switch to cloth diapering, and these recent posts on the basics of cloth diapering have been so helpful! I want to try for all the reasons: cost, health, environment. . . It would be a kick start to win!!
Sommer Kleve´s last blog post…Where have you been?
I currently use disposable diapers with our toddler, but will certainly be trying cloth for the next kiddo…mainly for cost reasons, but environmental too. I am now painfully aware just how many diapers I’ve put into our landfill this past year!
I am really interested in starting cloth diapering for both the cost factor (just the thought of how much money we have already spent in one year on diapers is scary) and the fact that I hate that we’re throwing so many disposables out every day.
We’ve been using CD’s on our son who is 2 months old. So far, we prefer the all in one systems like the BumGenius. We also like DryBee’s all in ones. We’ve also tried some fitteds with Thristies covers. We really like the all in one systems because it makes diaper changes so easy. I would love to try some of the other brands that you reviewed in your post. We love the fact that we’re not adding to landfills and the fact that there are no chemicals next to his skin.
I have several different types of cloth diapers but right now my favorites are my Sposoeasy aio diapers. They get a great fit and absorb and clean up wonderfully! I am also quickly falling in love with my sustainablebabyish fitted
It’s so soft and absorbent!
We use cloth during the day. I like Bumkins AIOs because they are easy and cute. We also enjoy the fitted Kissaluvs with wool covers — Aristocrats & Lana (I think?) longies in the colder weather.
We haven’t used cloth diapers yet, and I’ve honestly been hesitant to try them given that our daughter was born 3 months early and spent nearly 11 weeks in the NICU (where they used disposables). But I had been looking into them before she was born, and this series has really helped me become a lot more informed. The main reason I would like to try cloth diapering is the cost factor. Since we just went from two incomes to one, it would be great not to have to spend so much on diapers!
I love my BumGenius and Fuzzi Bunzes! They work great on my thick, Sumo Wrestler of a baby! And we bought them used from friends or they were purchased for us through a registry, so the cost (to us at least!) was practically nothing! Score!
I’ve been using cloth diapers for about a year now. I wish I had started with my first though. My favorite is a Chinese prefold with a cover. I like Swaddlebees (great outlet store!) and Bummis for covers. Lots of people like Thirsties, but they never worked for my skinny kids.
I’ve cloth diapered my little boy since he was about two weeks old (he’s 3 1/2 months now) and I just discovered pocket diapers. I wish I had found them sooner because of the way you can pick your absorption level. No more leaky middle of the night changes for me!
I’ve been cloth diapering my nearly 2 year old for the last 5 months. I wish I would have been brave enough to start sooner. We really do love cloth diapering-no rashes and they really are much easier than I would of ever thought. Right now our favorite diaper are fuzzy bunz.
I like using prefolds and thirsties covers on my 15 month old. I love the convenience of a snappi and would never have tried prefolds without it! I am a huge fan of trying new kinds of diapers and I wonder what I’ll do when my son is potty trained!
I plan on using cloth diapers with our first lil one coming in Oct. I love reading reviews! There are so many choices it tends to make my head swim… We are choosing to cloth diaper mainly for green reasons and to save some money in the long run
We have used BumGenius 2.0 since our little peanut was a week old. As soon as his thingy fell off and we were settled back home, nothing else has touched this boys heiny! They are soooooo easy to use, not that expensive, he has NEVER had ANY kind of rash or blowout and we have never had a church nursery worker or anyone that watches him have a problem using them either!!! While the initial investment is a little high, they are so worth it and so much cheaper in the long run! Now that Baby Boy #2 is coming next week, I am sooo happy because we already have everything we need, we will be saving a fortune using them again, his tush will be super cute and they are so much healthier and more sanitary!
I loved this series! So many people have seen our cloth diapers and asked me lots of questions. I will definitely be bookmarking this site for them, as everything is so well explained. Thank you!
I have cloth diapered my daughter since she was just a few months old. I started out using BumGenius 2.0 (it was before the 3.0′s came out!). We loved them, and they worked great…until the aplix lost its stickiness and started to fray. Note to anyone using BG’s…line dry the covers!! I should have done that all along. Live and learn! So, when the BG’s bit the dust, I switched to the newly released FuzziBunz One-Size. So far, we LOVE them! They are absorbent, so soft, and can be adjusted to many different fits through the leg and back elastic. We are expecting in October and I am looking forward to picking out cloth diapers for our new little one!
I am due in September with my first baby… I have been searching the internet far and wide with the same frustration that I assume so many have… there is so much information! To be able to try some without hurting my pocketbook would be perfect.
the information provided in your posts has been great, and I really appreciate your giveaway!
I’m 7 months pregnant with our first and we plan on using cloth diapers. I’m planning on starting out with prefolds and Thirsties covers and going from there. I want to cloth diaper to keep the diapers out of the landfill and to save money.
I use bum genius I love them they dry super fast in the sun and I love to find out in you post earlier this week that you can use cold water!!! all about saving $$$
Am about to have my third baby and have always wanted to try cloth diapering because I have like it was better for my baby. I think the upfront cost has been what’s holding me back. Maybe I’ll win a few here to try out! =)
jenifer
We began cloth diapering with our fourth child when he was 16 months old (he is now 29 months) and have cd’s our duaghter since birth, she is 4months. So, we have a big range to cover there! We have two favorites. We love Diaper’s by Deb’s one-size pocket pul diapers. They can hold plenty of doublers (we often have 1 microfiber and 2 hemp in their at night) They fit our toddler and skinny 4 month old equally well and come in so many colors with too many adorable embroidery patterns to choose from. They are easy to use and very dependable. The only problem is we have to resist the urge to show off these super cute diapers!
For night time, we love Adorabumz duoz. These are aptly named, absolutely adorable, cloth outers with super soft bamboo velour. We had ours made into pocket diapers so we could add extra fluff for our super soakers. This diaper with a wool cover (Wee Folk Woolies are great) leaves both of our babies dry all night, clothes and all.
I am expecting my 8th child any day now, and JUST NOW started cloth diapering my 2 yo (out of necessity). Even though I know I’m doing it wrong, I can’t believe how ridiculously easy it is. Having potty trained 6 other kids – the mess is so minimal! LOL!
I can’t wait to start with my newest, due this week!
i’ve never tried cloth diapers but have wanted to. we just don’t quite have the money to start it. i know in the end it will save us a ton of money, plus it’s better for the environment. i hope to win these to jump start my cloth diapering adventures!
i posted about you on my blog! i hope i win!
I love fuzzibunz. I’m using cloth diapers with baby #3 that I bought nearly 7 years ago with baby #1. Thanks for the great giveaway!
Your posts about the cloth diapers have inspired me to give it a try; first for the money savings, and second for the cute diaper options.
I have a 1 and a 2 yr old in diapers and am pregnant with our third. I’ve wanted to use cloth in the past, but have been intimidated by the complexity and laundry and all that. The giveaways would be a great way for me to try out cloth diapers and hopefully fall in love with them and use them exclusively on our third child.
We use BabyBeehinds (an Aussie brand) I’ve used nothing else since he was born (barring one holiday with biodegradable disposables… try saying that five times fast). they are a two piece system with a cover. The nappy itself is organic bamboo, and super absorbent. The covers come in cute colours and are really easy to put on and wash. The only time I’ve ever had blowouts was when I was using covers a friend had loaned me which I didn’t realise had lost their stretch, therefore leading to gaps around the legs. Now that I have relatively new ones, it’s much better! I’d love to try some AIO’s though, i like the idea for my husband, because he has a habit of forgetting covers! I usually find out when I’m out and wondering why my shirt/pants are suddenly wet….
We have been using disposables & last week started trying 1-2 AIO diapers a day that we got from a garage sale – Kushies brand or Cushies? This series has been so timely because the AIOs are just about too small & we need to decide if we want to try & purchase larger cloth diapers for her little bottom – thanks for all the information!
We’ve used BumGenius one size 2.0s (now we have some 3.0s too) since my daughter was about 3 months old. i wanted something simple and to not have to sell my stash and buy a new one every time she sized up. We love them! Saves money, they don’t end up in a landfill, and cute to boot. My only complaint about cloth diapering in general is that it’s harder to find clothes that fit … you need to size up for the fluffy booty, but not too far because then the legs are too long. Sigh. Still worth it though.
I use prefolds and covers. I bought the prefolds new from little lions and the covers (bummis, nikkys, proraps) from a few people via craigslist. The Nikkys are my favorite. I’ve spent $200 and have everything I need from birth to potty training. The system works well during the day…but I don’t use these at night. Not sure they would do the trick for 10+ hours.
I have been tossing around the idea of cloth diapering since my son was born – cost, environment, chemicals in disposables etc… I think you may have just pushed me over into the feeling brave enough to try category
I currently don’t cloth diaper but I would like to try it as my daughter has a rash that will not go away. Maybe cloth diapers would help it go away.
Thanks for the giveaway.

I just started my son on cloth diapers. I bought a sampler package from a website so my stash is not very big, so I wash a lot. Your information was very helpful, I would love to win so that I could add to the little that I have. Thank you again for the information!!
We use a mixture of Baby Beehinds (Aus. company i think) fitteds and terries with a beehinds cover.
You really have tried a number of different styles!
I would love to try a few more styles!
Thanks,
Jenna
We used them with our second child, but gave them away when we were living in Africa. Now we’re back in the US, and I’d like to try them again with my third child, especially because there’s a good chance it will help her potty train earlier!
I’ve been using CDs on my 13 month old since she was 4 months old. I’ve tried a few different brands (beware cloth diapers are addicting!) but always come back to my bulletproof BumGenius 3.o. If only they had snaps! I have a couple BG Organic AIOs with snaps and they are super nice too, but not quite as nap worthy as the BG 3.0.
We’ve used Fuzzi Bunz, Bum Genius 3.0s and Happy Heinys. We like the FB and BG but weren’t huge fans of the Happy Heinys. I’m sure they work well for lots of people, but they weren’t a good fit for our daughter. Thanks for the great giveaway!

My husband and I are interested in trying cloth diapers with our 4 month old, but haven’t had the opportunity to pony up the large upfront cost. We have one Bum Genius diaper, but I’d love to try some Fuzzi Bunz. Thank you!
I am expecting at the end of this month. I am new to cloth diapering and since we are a student family we cannot afford all the lovely extras that make CD more easy. We are planning to use prefolds and Dappi Nylon covers so far and a few second hand Bummis SWW. I have read that these items have pretty good reviews for there prices from diaperpin.com so that is why I went with them. I am planning to CD only since it is more natural and healthy for our little one. I read that there have been studies showing that disposable diapers can lead to reproductive health issues in the future for both males and females so I wouldn’t want to risk such issues. Also I like the idea of CD’s because of the environmental issues tied to disposables. My and my husbands parents cloth diapered us and they did just fine. Not to mention the low cost of CD compared to disposables in the long run especially over multiple children. Well I think you can’t go wrong with CD and the benefits hugely out way any small inconveniences of washing etc. I am really appreciating the CD distributors giving free diapers even if I don’t get them. What a great way to spread the word about CDing and help out some poor moms in the process. Thanks a lot!!!
thank you for these past few posts on cloth diapers. it has been so wonderful to read about and to send on to other mothers who are expecting and contemplating different brands. with my first we used both disposables and the G diaper. I was very excited about the G diaper and remember driving to the store the day the launched to get a set. We enjoyed them but ended up using them for only a short amount of time due to hassle and cost. It just did not see like a great investment at the time. With out second we decided to go the cloth route and love it. This time we chose the BumGinius 3.0 and love everything about them. The selling point for us was the one size fits all. It was nice to know that we could invest in 17 diapers and use them the all the way to potty training.

I’ve always been a bit afraid of my “gag reflex” when it comes to having to clean up after the cloth diapers, but after seeing so many friends do it and all these great posts, I’m definitely willing to give it a go with the third kid.
I love how cute and “easy” it can be compared to the stuff our moms had to go through.
Thanks for the great series!
So far we’ve been using some Sweet Cheeks & a Bummis cover — I LOVE the Bummis cover.
It fits really well & doesn’t add to the bulk. They’re also relatively inexpensive!

I’m a big fan of the BumGenius All-In-One Diapers. We have 4 that we use at home to save on the cost of diapers. They have fit my almost one year old since she was a newborn. My favorite part is how easy they clean up and how quickly they dry! I toss them in the wash when she goes to bed and hang them to dry before I go to bed and they’re ready to use the next morning!
I have to go with the Fuzzi Bunz!!! They are my favorite and my husband will actully change a diaper!!!
For my infant daughter I used a variety of hand me down cloth diapers, mainly pre-folds with bummis covers which worked very well (though I would recommend buying the smaller infant size for a better fit). I bought one Bum Genius all in one diaper and was starting to save to buy several when viola – a major hand-me down of an older style Bumpkins (not all in one but it I received several sizes). They do the job just fine, esp. with the bummis biosoft liners (she is now 6 months and eating foods). I am worried about as she gets bigger that the older style Bumpkins may be bulky so I would love more BumGenius type diapers to give her more mobility.
I haven’t had the courage (or the chunk of change) yet to try cloth. But, I think the idea of cutting down on garbage is almost enough to entice me. And, they’re just so darn cute!
This has been the most informative series I’ve ever seen about CD! I have no babies yet, but would seriously consider it for my first. Both for cost and environmental reasons, as well as cuteness.
I have tried a lot of diapers with my son. He was in daycare for a short period of time where they used Fuzzibunz and BumGenius One Size pockets. I did not like them because they seemed to leak as bad as a sposie. At home, we have pretty much stuck to Green Mountain Prefolds and Thirsties covers. Even at 19 months, we use prefolds and covers, and it works really well for us. Though I would like to get my hands on some nice organic bamboo

I have about 5-6 BumGenius AIO pocket diapers. I love them! I started using them at about 8 months b/c my daughter had gnarly rash issues almost from birth and it would come and go so I couldn’t nail it down to a brand necessarily. I finally had to go cloth and did it diligently for a bit, but with only a few CDs was doing wash every night. Put the project on hold, found some more solutions to the rash and we are currently holding strong. #2 is on the way, so I am pretty almost definitely sure I am going to go CD from the start and try to head off any problems, and SAVE MONEY!! Awesome blog!! I was referred by a friend who knows I CD and it’s great!
I thought I knew how to do a trackback….but it doesn’t seem to be working, so here is the blog post that I wrote about your site!
http://www.backerfollies.blogspot.com/
the reason that the trackback isn’t working is because Blogger does not support any such feature. So I tried, it is in my blog and I did learn a new thing!

I haven’t used cloth diapers yet, and my son is now 10 months old. Initially, I thought I’d be able to do it – but then we realized we had to move 2000 miles a week after the baby was due, and my husband couldn’t get time off since he was starting a new job. Why would I like to try it now? I am sick of throwing away so much waste, for one! I am bummed to realize, too, that using CDs might have helped with the explosive up-the-back diapers from months ago. I just switched to cloth napkins, why not diapers next?
We use mainly prefolds and Bummis Super Whisper wraps. I’ve just bought a Thirsties wrap, but it’s a little big for my son yet. I not expecting anything to outperform the Bummis though- I’m really happy with them. I have some Fuzzi Bunz for night time. I really like them but recently have had leakage issue during the night, despite hemp doubler in there also. I’ve put it down to my son taking increased fluids in the warm weather.
My son is prone to rashes and I heard that cloth diapers can calm it down. I have wanted to invest in them, but have no idea what to buy or where to begin. This has given me a great start!
We’re using cloth with both – the 2 yo and the 1 mo. I love the BG for the 2 yo (and FWIW, their customer service is awesome) and Kissaluvs for the infant. Those babies are blow-out proof!
I posted about your giveaway on my blog.

As a momma to 5 little ones ages 3 1/2 and under I decided to give cloth diapers a try a year ago. At the time I had a 2 year old (potty trained) and 11 month old twin boys (didn’t know I would soon be pregnany with twins again.)
We went with bum genius and I have not regretted it at all! I only bought a couple of diapers at the time so I could try them out and not have a huge investment. Once we found out we were expecting again, and with twins again, I started research the cost of disposable diapers vs. the time cloth diapers would take. Cloth won hands down! We do have a few of the fuzzi bunz and they work great too- I am just partial to the velro closure on the bum genius. It is quicker than the snaps when you have another baby crying and if you are a mom of multiples you know, you need your hands free! Both have a great fit on all 4 of mine in diapers and I have never had a leak or blow out yet! With our boys, I think the cloth can go a little longer between changes than disposables… more absorbant, I guess. I have reccommended them to everyone- I only wish I had started with them when my first baby was born! So- with 4 babies in diapers I would definitly love to win the giveaway!
I have two favourite CD brands – blueberries (the quality is worth the price, IMO) and Itty Bitty -a nice, trim, user-friendly nappy!
I LOVE cloth nappies it is true
And I enjoyed SimpleMom’s review.
And although they help the environment (like they should)
The best thing is that they look SO GOOD!!!
Washing day for me is a treat
I like lining my nappies up neat
I confess, I’m an addict, a strange lady….
Please help me build up my stash for my baby!
Never tried cloth diapers, but you have my curious. Especially interested in the transition to toilet.
so informative. thanks for taking the time to write about all of this.
My favorite is the Jamtots Berry Plush A12. Very absorbent, super cute, easy dry, great fit, and I love side-snapping.

we’ve used BumGenius one size pocket diapers almost exclusively for almost two years now. I have had to buy new inserts because the ammonia smell was so bad and was causing diaper rash. I think this was because I was using a dry diaper pail method. Now I am using the same BumGenius covers, but am inserting a prefold which I pull out and soak separately from the covers using Bac-out in the water. Bac-out is not ok to use on the covers because it will ruin the PUL (laminate) on the covers which will ruin it’s “waterproofness”. I should be able to use the same 18 covers for our next child by snapping the diapers down to make them smaller, then increasing their size as the child grows.
I am interested in trying cloth diapers to cut costs.
I am hoping to use cloth diapers with our next baby coming in December for a number of reasons. Cheaper, better for baby’s skin and health, and cute.
Thanks for this giveaway!
This has been such a wonderful week of diapering education!! As a first time mom I just didn’t feel ready to take on what I thought was going to be a challenge of using a CD system–I wish I’d know earlier how easy it is now! As my son got older (and I got braver) I started investigating alternative diapering options more. I have enjoyed learning more about what’s out there & dipping my toe in. I’m also glad to be able to share with friends who have newborns and younger children what’s available & how to get started. I’ll be pointing them to this wonderful diapering week resource! THANKS!
I use Bambino Mio cloth diapers with nylon waterproof covers and throwaway liners. It worked out fine (my son is now 14 months old) until now. We’re expecting a new baby and I am thinking of switching to All in One’s. Still dreading the costs, especially since I won’t be sure which one will fit and all of us will like… I’m scouring the web for second hand diapers to try different ones.
thinking about trying CDing…basically because of cost and environmental impact. It’s an awesome giveaway, I’d be stoked if I won!!
I have not cloth diapered, but I periodically investigate it since my 14 month old has been born. Besides fear, we live in an apt in nyc and use the washer/dryer in the basement. I have concerns about the odor factor of the diapers before I would have enough for a load (it’s $2 to wash, if the washer is not full I’m not only wasting water but $$). The FuzziBunz diaper pail would be a solution to this. A friend of mine is a long time cloth diaper user and makes her own covers. I love the idea of personalizing them and adding a homey touch. I think it’s time to finally borrow her pattern.

We are currently using the Bum Genius all-in-ones in XS and the Happy Heinys pockets in XS on our 3-week-old. I thought I would prefer the convenience of the AIO but I actually LOVE the Happy Heiny diaper. I like that the velcro is covered, it’s holding up better and doesn’t snag on my clothes when I nurse her. Also, the BG diapers take at least 3 times as long to dry as the HH.

I use Motherease cloth diapers and really like them. They fit my kids very well – I used them constantly with my first child -I do work as a teacher and my childcare provider would use them when she was in her care – I have been using disposables all school year and plan to use the cloth this summer with my son – in hopes to motivate potty training – before # 3 joins us at the end of September. I would love to win some new diapers! Thank you for your comprehensive list of resources.

I looooooove the Disana wool wraps as a cover. They work with every kind of diaper that needs a cover, and they are the perfect cover for nighttime since they really keep the wetness at bay and are 100% breathable. Truly the best investment we ever made. As for actual diapers, we’ve tried so many and like many different ones for different reasons. I love our new Schlüpfis from Storchenkinder (only available in Europe, unfortunately). They’re soft and absorbent, and they’re constructed in such a way that you can either put them on like a regular diaper or encourage your tot to pull them up (and down) themselves for potty learning. The cut is also perfect for my daughter’s chubby thighs.

I love love LOVE Swaddlebees pocket diapers! I’ve been using them for almost a year now and am very happy with them. I used to use Gdiapers, but stopped because of the cost of the flushable liners, plus the velcro on the closures wasn’t working very well anymore and wouldn’t keep the diapers closed good. My friend introduced me to Swaddlebee’s and I haven’t looked back. I love how they are more fitted in front so it isn’t as bulky as some other brands.
