This giveaway is closed.

The final giveaway for the week is from Chrissie of Flip Flops and Applesauce. She’s a talented artist and mama, and she’s created the most adorable coloring books.

My four-year-old daughter has thoroughly enjoyed each of these editions, and we even used the alphabet books as part of her pre-k home school curriculum. We created an alphabet train, tied each letter together with ribbon, and draped it along the wall.

We also create name art that she enjoys giving to her friends and family. The creative options are endless with Chrissie’s creative work!

I love the unique touches she’s put on her different drawings – I love the teacups in her counting book, and the “o” orange in the lowercase alphabet book.

Chrissie wants to give three Simple Mom readers four of her coloring books – the Uppercase ABC Coloring Book, the lowercase abc coloring book, Numbers 1-20 Coloring Book, and Nursery Rhymes Coloring Book.

To win, here’s how to enter:

Leave a comment at this post, answering the following question: What’s your family’s favorite arts-and-crafts activity?

The giveaway is open to anyone worldwide, and it lasts until this Sunday, May 31.

I hope you win! Thanks again for all your participation. Have a great weekend, and I’ll announce the winners from the week soon.

Favorite arts-and-crafts activity… We actually don’t have one, but those coloring books look like a good place to start!

2 Laine May 30, 2009 at 6:37 am

I’m not sure we have a favorite. Although anything with scissors, glue or paint is a hit with my kiddos! =)

3 Liz May 30, 2009 at 6:39 am

free drawing is something my kids are constantly doing. That and painting are their favorites.

4 Mandi May 30, 2009 at 6:40 am

My youngest loves to color, but I’d say the oldest two love anything that involves glue the best!

These are beautiful coloring books, and I think they’d make a great addition to our school books as well!

My boys love arts and crafts! We have a bin of odds and ends we pull out, get out of some glue, and just go nuts! We’re all about open-ended projects here!

6 Alice S May 30, 2009 at 6:52 am

We do arts and crafts pretty much every day with my 4 and 2 years olds. Painting is probably the favorite right now, but for a long time my little boy wanted to cut out everything. these books look great and I plan to check out her offerings. Great giveaways! thank you.

7 Toni May 30, 2009 at 7:01 am

Well, mama’s favorite is something that is easy to clean up, but, my oldest boy is 2 so that doesn’t happen much. He loves to use markers and “help” me sew by cutting up my thread. Those coloring books are adorable! Thanks so much!

8 Barb M May 30, 2009 at 7:03 am

We love making colorful pictures with sidewalk chalk. This has been my girls’ favorite activity this spring!

9 Laura Jones May 30, 2009 at 7:04 am

My little one prefers just holding and looking at crayons to coloring with them right now…but he’ll get there!

10 Jen May 30, 2009 at 7:24 am

My kitchen table is always covered with paper, scissors, glue, crayons… My boys can’t keep away from the stuff! They color, cut and paste everything they can get their hands on.

Our favorite arts and crafts activity….my girls love to make “nature collages”. They gather up their favorite finds from outside and try to make something with it, or if they want, we fill a small jar and they can keep it in their room. They love it!

12 Jill May 30, 2009 at 7:30 am

Coloring, coloring, and more coloring!

13 Rachel May 30, 2009 at 7:33 am

I tend to shy away from messy things…! But my daughter loves to paint. She gets it from my husband, as he is a good painter. I love to see her creativity come out in this area.

14 Sarah May 30, 2009 at 7:33 am

Dd is only 21 months so there aren’t too many crafts happening yet but she adored dying Easter eggs (although I think dying her hands with the different colours was her favourite parts).

I have a 15 month old, so we are just entering the world of arts & crafts. At this point, finger painting is the best!

16 Aimee May 30, 2009 at 7:35 am

We’re getting a lot of mileage out of homemade play dough these days. Does that count as a craft?

17 Cindy May 30, 2009 at 7:36 am

My kids and I like to make creatures out of modelling clay and play-doh.

18 Katharine May 30, 2009 at 7:37 am

The kids love anything. Our latest activity was working with craft sticks.

19 Malinda May 30, 2009 at 7:38 am

My girls love making paper crafts. They work wonders with some paper, markers, scissors, and glue. I just got each of them a set of perler beads and pegboards and they LOVE doing those.

20 Eleanor May 30, 2009 at 7:39 am

Our favorite arts and crafts activity at the moment is modge podge.

21 Valerie R. May 30, 2009 at 7:43 am

We do a lot of coloring, but my youngest son’s favorite probably is transforming large boxes into some sort of space ship with scissors, glue, construction paper and crayons. Anytime I get a box shipped to me, he claims it immediately.

22 Darlene May 30, 2009 at 7:43 am

We make banners and hang them in our dining room archway–birthday banners, holiday banners (“Give Thanks” of a string of rabbits for Easter), and for the Superbowl a giant balck and gold “Go Steelers!” banner. It gives our boys a chance to work with letters, cutting and pasting, threading, and we all enjoy the festive results.

23 Lisa May 30, 2009 at 7:44 am

Gluing together fabric scraps to make a “quilt”. They get pretty creative with it, adding embellishments (scrap pieces of lace, trim, and ribbon) and matching colors and fabrics! A bit young yet for a sewing machine (ages 6, 4, and 2), but I can’t wait until they can use one!

24 Mikaela May 30, 2009 at 7:45 am

Our favorite arts/crafts activity is painting. My son (who will be 3 next month) loves watercolors. He typically sits and paints for up to 30 minutes. It’s so fun to watch him and to hear him explain his pictures to me. Adorable coloring books!

25 Stacey May 30, 2009 at 7:51 am

My boys enjoy painting on their easel. We just painted rocks too. Paint. Let them paint!

26 Betsy May 30, 2009 at 7:53 am

We love stickers here–two-year-old twins and a 3.5 year old. Coloring is another favorite, but the twins are just beginning to figure that one out.

27 Jenn @ Beautiful Calling May 30, 2009 at 7:53 am

Well, my oldest is 2 so we’re still pretty new to it but Chloe loves anything that involves crayons and or the glue stick!

28 Katie May 30, 2009 at 7:55 am

My little one enjoys eating crayons right now, but when she’s older, I’d like her to learn to sew with her grandma.

29 steadymom May 30, 2009 at 7:55 am

My kids love painting – we’ve even done it at some of their birthday parties and it is always a big hit.

we enjoy coloring with colored pencils, markers, crayons…and i’m striving to add more arts and crafts in to our lives!

31 Robin May 30, 2009 at 8:01 am

We love to watercolor together. My daughter puts together the most wonderful color combinations. Perfection.

32 Christine @ Live to Learn May 30, 2009 at 8:02 am

My kids love to use glue and tape all the time. :)

33 Martha May 30, 2009 at 8:02 am

Coloring!

34 amy berry May 30, 2009 at 8:05 am

my 3 year old helped me decorate her thank you note postcards with racecar stickers. an easy and fun (and cheap) way to say thanks.

35 Darla May 30, 2009 at 8:06 am

We like drawing best of all.

36 Sherri (Serene Journey) May 30, 2009 at 8:09 am

My little one is into eating crayons as well…but so far we’ve found finger painting is a HUGE hit! The messier the better :)

My 4 yr old son LOVES arts & crafts. He’s created his own crafting area and calls himself an artist. “I don’t have to put my underwear on mom, I’m an *artist*”. Where does he get this??

Anyhooo, our favorite crafts are drawing and stickers. He’ll tear a piece of paper to make a card. He draws on it — usually a bird house or monster — and then puts stickers on it. He then addresses it or signs it with his name. Cute.

38 Beth May 30, 2009 at 8:14 am

Definitely painting!! She adores it — the messier the better. I don’t mind it either b/c we use washable paint. Then she loves to hop in the shower afterwards to clean up!

39 Michelle Meyer May 30, 2009 at 8:15 am

Painting with watercolors is probably my kids’ favorite activity, with cutting out catalog pictures a close second. : )

40 dawn May 30, 2009 at 8:26 am

favorite arts and crafts activity…..anything that involves glue! Especially if it is colored glue or glitter glue!

41 Julia May 30, 2009 at 8:26 am

I probably need to up the effort I put into our arts and crafts, but right now we mostly do drawing, crayons, painting, etc. My 3-year-old’s favorite is markers, probably because they still have an aura of novelty around them. :) These coloring books are BEAUTIFUL and I would love to win!

42 SaraR May 30, 2009 at 8:28 am

Playdough is a big hit around here though I’m not sure it’s a “real” craft. We also adore stamps and finger paint.

43 stephanie May 30, 2009 at 8:30 am

My girls are always coloring and drawing. They would love these books. :) They also love painting, but I’m not so fond on that yet … we’ll probably enjoy it more when they get a little bit older. :)

44 Sarah @ Clover Lane May 30, 2009 at 8:32 am

Anything with a bag full of cheap popsicle sticks!

45 betsy May 30, 2009 at 8:32 am

my kids love painting

46 Rachel May 30, 2009 at 8:36 am

I prefer colored pencils. My oldest like to cut and paste pictures. The younger still prefers scribbling.

47 Aimee Confer May 30, 2009 at 8:38 am

Painting is definitely a favorite around here! We are getting ready to paint a wardrobe box and make it into a puppet theatre!

48 Anna May 30, 2009 at 8:43 am

Arts and crafts are still a challenge over here because my kids are 2 1/2, 20 months, and 18 months. I’ve been trying to do activities that are appropriate for all three but the two little ones still put everything (like crayons) in their mouths. My 2 1/2 year-old loves to glue beans on construction paper.

49 Kathryn May 30, 2009 at 8:44 am

Coloring truly is their favorite!!!

50 Kate May 30, 2009 at 8:48 am

We love sketching in our nature journals.

51 Liz C May 30, 2009 at 8:50 am

Right now our favorite crafty thing is making felt “Wee Folk”. My oldest and I make the floss-wrapped bodies and put details on faces, my 10yo son does base coat paints and cutting felt clothing shapes, and the two little girls give opinions freely and test all the dollies.

52 anne May 30, 2009 at 8:50 am

We love to paint watercolors in our house.

53 Jenny In Illlinois May 30, 2009 at 8:51 am

I have 2 little guys who love anything artsy. Seriously. If it’s messy, if it’s not. In the last 2 years by boys have started making their own scrapbooks and cards. As I do any one of my paper crafting projects, they have a spot next to me and they make their own. I’ve let my oldest take my point and shoot camera to take pictures of what ever he likes. This summer we are taking a mom & me mixed media art class together.

54 Bouchy May 30, 2009 at 8:52 am

Painting! It is fun and the options are endless!

55 RLR May 30, 2009 at 8:54 am

My daughter loves to draw and color (crayons, markers, chalk – you name it). My son likes to paint.
These coloring books sound great!

We love to draw and color silly pictures. We also do a lot of finger painting in the bath tub

57 Pennie May 30, 2009 at 8:57 am

My girls and I love to make masks. I don’t know why, but the sillier they get, the happier we are! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

58 Steph May 30, 2009 at 8:57 am

My son is 17 months and still eats crayons, paint, and glue and is afraid of play dough, so no crafts to speak of here yet.

My boys’ favorite artsy activity would probably be making paper airplanes. The boys and their dad will use up a ream of paper to get their planes “just so”. My girls both love drawing and painting, and my oldest one could have some sort of artistic career ahead of her. She’s 16, and she enjoys doing artwork with the younger kids. I love that!

Painting. My son particularly likes to use a couple of his cars to drive through the paint and create tracks.

65 Erin May 30, 2009 at 9:09 am

Hmmm .. we definitely don’t do enough arts and crafts around here. I will say we all enjoy working with the Perla beads where you make a design out of the beads and then iron them to melt them together. The boys enjoy creating something and I find it a very theraputic/mesmorizing activity.

66 Katheryn May 30, 2009 at 9:11 am

My kids really love painting. Give them a blank piece of paper and some watercolors and they are in heaven!

At Christmas time we make handprint Christmas trees with paint and all sorts of other little things to decorate the trees. Great family tradition and a fun activity for people of all ages.

70 Jennifer May 30, 2009 at 9:17 am

Coloring (either with chalk, or as free drawing, or in coloring books) — my oldest also loves to cut things up into little pieces!

71 Mel May 30, 2009 at 9:18 am

My daughter loves to cut and paste anything and everything!

72 Courtney May 30, 2009 at 9:21 am

So far, my daughters is coloring on the furniture with pen… not so great really. She is starting to understand crayon and coloring books though, so this would be a great prize for us.

73 Chris May 30, 2009 at 9:22 am

Because my kiddos are 2 and 1, the only arts and crafts we do is “making a big mess for mommy to clean up” or “lets paint each other with the giant tub of diaper cream”

74 Christina May 30, 2009 at 9:25 am

My children are both so young still that we don’t really do too many arts and crafts, but my older daughter (almost 3) loves to cut everything and anything!

75 Andrea May 30, 2009 at 9:28 am

just plain old drawing with crayons, markers, and stickers. Sometimes we make little story books out of my daughter’s drawings and then I write down her unique “narration” of the story. :)

Adorable coloring books! Hope we win — those would be perfect for keeping my daughter busy during our summer road trips!

84 FishMama May 30, 2009 at 9:42 am

We have a HUGE supply cupboard that I don’t open often enough. The kids LOVE to paint. I bought them real watercolor paints in tubes and while the littles nap, we create real art.

85 Allison May 30, 2009 at 9:42 am

My daughter is very creative about using materials in ways they weren’t intended to be used, so her favorite craft activity is… assembling multi-media collages with lots of tape and/or glue with whatever other materials happen to be around (muffin cups, ribbons, fabric scraps)….

86 Amy O May 30, 2009 at 9:43 am

Because I enjoy knitting, my boys have become interested in learning. Other than that, they love to draw, paint and play play dough

87 Melitsa May 30, 2009 at 9:54 am

I love letting their imagination do something. They often ask me for the materials and just produce something. Their favourite though would be good ole pencil and paper. They both love to draw and the baby loves to chew paper lol

88 Akimbo May 30, 2009 at 9:57 am

Oooh, finger painting!!! :>

89 Keri May 30, 2009 at 9:57 am

Any kind of coloring — coloring books, or just drawing with crayons — is a big hit in our house.

90 kitter May 30, 2009 at 9:59 am
