Welcome to the summer Week of Giveaways! Today we’re starting with Envirosax, one of my favorite reusable bag companies.
Envirosax helps protect the environment for tomorrow’s generation by providing an eco-friendly alternative to disposable shopping bags that have caused so much damage to the environment worldwide. Envirosax bags are lightweight, portable, waterproof and each one holds the equivalent of two supermarket plastic bags thanks to reinforced seams.
They’re inexpensive, compact, and darling. And they’re definitely strong – we have several of these bags, and even with all their use, they look brand new.

Envirosax wants to give two different Simple Mom readers one bag from their Organic Series. They are manufactured from natural materials, including viscose from bamboo, linen, and a fine grade hemp. The bags come with their own little pouch for easy storage in a glove compartment or handbag.
Envirosax Organic Series bags are printed with vegetable based inks and are all packaged a recycled cardboard box that has been printed with organic soy-based waterless inks. A great gift idea!
To win a bag, here’s how to enter:
Leave a comment at this post, answering the following question: What’s one new thing you plan to do this year to be a more eco-friendly family?
The giveaway is open worldwide, and it lasts until this Friday, May 29. I’ll draw the two winners this weekend.
I hope you win! Check back in a few hours for another giveaway.

I’ve been working on using less paper towel & using rags more. Also, my kids have become pretty good at recycling, but one thing we need to work on is leaving the tap running when they’re brushing their teeth, so that’s something I want to work on. We’re also planting our first garden this year…and I’m hoping we can figure out somewhere to put a clothesline (I’ve really missed it since we moved!
I am trying to remember to take my reusable bags into every store with me, not just the grocery store.
Composting, for sure. I’ve learned recently how vege and food scraps sitting in landfill simply… sit there. For years upon years. I’m investing in a countertop compost bin to get me started.
Im just going to focus on little things I can do around the house, like not buying bottled water anymore, not using paper plates the way I used to, hauling stuff to the recycle center, composting etc. Love the little bags! My big goal for the year is to remember to take my cloth bags to the store and USING them, instead of getting more plastic bags to recycle!
I have been and plan to ride my bike to work more often. I live so close, and not only is it better for the environment, it saves me money, too!
I made cloth napkins out of leftover material I had. We’re also supporting local farmers through participation in a CSA.

I really hate walking into a dark room, so I leave the lights on A LOT. My goal for this year is to get over that and turn off the lights more often. I decided to start in the summer since there’s so much more natural light it makes it easier.
We have expanded our garden this year, and what we can’t grow ourselves we are trying to buy from local producers. It has been a real eye-opener and has forced us to make some big changes!
We are making our own laundry soap and we have a small garden.
Jess´s last blog post…An unmentioned important note about Fairhope…
We are trying to reduce the plastic, both in bags and water bottles.
Thanks for the giveaway!

One of our goals to become more eco-friendly is to stop using zip-locks and use re-usable containers instead–even when camping. We’re also breaking up with saran-wrap. That relationship has just gone on too long.
We are growing some of our own vegetables and plan to buy more from local farmer’s markets.
We’re finally buying a home that has curbside recycling service so recycling will be much easier!
Emily´s last blog post…The Shocking Conclusion
I want to start a compost bin this year and switch to Skoy cloths or another super absorbent cloth to use instead of paper towels…I’m also thinking about switching to cloth napkins instead of the paper napkins we currently use.
We are planning to bike more – our daughter is old enough to bike to school next year, we can bike down to the grocery store and library etc. And I’ve just bought a clothes rack to air dry our clothes in the summer to cut down on dryer use.
We are raising our own chickens and planted a garden this year. We are hoping to do a better job of raising our own food and buying local. I love these bags.
Melanie´s last blog post…Chick cute-ness!
I’m hoping to start a compost.
I have been taking reusable bags to the grocery store for years now but now I am going to bring them to other stores as well. Now I just have to remember to tell the cashier BEFORE she bags my items!!
I plan to get a rain barrel (our city subsidizes the cost and sells them for one day) so that I can water my plants and some of our grass with it. I hope to reduce our consumption of water – and save money!
This year I plan to stop using plastic bags completely; I plan to nurse when my little one arrives this summer (if all goes well; first child needed special formula due to metabolic disorder), and I plan to make all my baby food to eliminate all those little bottles & lids.
I am composting all of my food scraps and growing my own veggies.
Our list is long…but that’s because we’re moving to a new house. But one of the big ones is to try to eat less meat. This family has always been big summer-time grillers. I’m hoping to add more veggie burgers and veggie ka-bobs and less steak. : )
bdaiss´s last blog post…Movin’ Right Along…
My pledge to try and be more eco friendly would be to be consistent with the things I am already doing.
I need to take the reusable bad in EVERY time I go to the store
I need to recycle EVERYTHING I can
I need to reuse what I have and reinvent it before throwing it out.
I am confident I can!
I want to make my own produce sacks. I made grocery sacks last year and they work great. But I don’t have produce sacks – so plastic still comes home each week. I’m also starting to knit my own wash cloths. Looking for eco cotton yarn – so we can do a step better.
Avlor´s last blog post…Beauty of Mad Science – in word form
We’re working on eating everything we buy and prepare. Even though we compost, wasting food seems to be our biggest eco-crime. . . doubly crime-y since we eat mostly organic and local food.

My Mother’s Day gift was a compost bin that my husband and son built. We’re also part time cloth diaper-ers this year!
We have put the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra into full effect! No more plastic bags from the grocery store; no more water bottles to throw away, etc. We are buying things that are multiple use if at all possible. Driving less – carpooling more. I’m even trying to cook less but still eat at home (making multiple meals at one time, for examle). We are washing clothes in cold water and all three of us take our showers one after the other so as not to have to warm up the hot water as much.
We are recycling more – even though it is not convenient here as we have to drive 30 minutes to a recycling station. So I’m saving it up for once a month. I’m shopping at the farmer’s market too. Lots of little things but those little things add up!

We are switching to an organic pest control service, and removing all chemical cleaning supplies from our household.
Paula´s last blog post…Memorial Day Robbery
We already take reusable shopping bags, cloth diapers, reusable menstrual products, cloth wipes, kitchen cloth, family cloth, and use baking soda and vinegar as shampoo, so my main goal for this year is to actually have a little garden. We have no yard to speak of, so we’re planting tomatoes, zucchini, and bell peppers in containers.
alianora´s last blog post…Not Quite Free to Good Home
Hmmm…one new thing… We are already pretty eco-friendly, we work hard to be good stewards of creation, but I would have to say that cooking multiple meals at one time – and therefore using less energy – would be something I would like to do more of this year. Not only will it help by using less resources, but it will help me as I started working part-time outside the home for the first time in 20 years.
Well, I suppose I have two.
First, we just bought a Prius for our second car, but it’s already become our primary car. We LOVE it! Not only is it fun to drive, but when driven right, gas fill-ups are few and far between.
Second, we stopped using disposable napkins and such, even for birthday parties. We’re using regular plates, cloth table cloths and cloth napkins. Considering we have four children, it should be a huge cutback.
Mary´s last blog post…Genetic Research?
We just purchased a front loading washing machine and have started to use reusable shopping bags. I love them because they hold more groceries than plastic sacks, and I can use them for other things too.

One thing we’re trying to do is use reusable bags for groceries – so this would be great, as I could use another one. Thanks!

Taking cloth diapering from part time to full time! Just buying less in general= less waste all around….
Well, I still have your recent post with 40 eco tips saved in Bloglines, and it’s been an awesome inspiration to up our commitment to being an earth-friendly family. We’ve already been doing cloth diapers, and this is our first week of being paper towel free. And I made a trip to Whole Foods yesterday to buy the Diva Cup… so far, so good! Thanks!
Katherine´s last blog post…Motherhood/Earthquake
I plan on doing cloth diapers exclusively.
We’re hoping to take better advantage of our garden by canning and freezing most of the produce, so that we can eat more homegrown food well into winter. Also hoping to find a good bread recipe, so I can make our weekly bread. I love the envirosax!
I’m going to try to hang our cloth diapers out to dry instead of using the dryer. In this AZ summer heat, it doesn’t take very long!

To get enough re-usable bags that I don’t have to use the plastic bags anymore.
tabitha´s last blog post…Broadening My Horizons
eat veggies from our newly planted garden!
We’re composting for the first time, continuing to attempt to eat locally and in season, and trying to use the car less.
Thanks for a fun giveaway!
This year my husband and I plan to try a composting pile. We’re looking into containers and the best way to start one
Katie´s last blog post…I Heart Peppermint
We do a lot of things already. The one thing we have that I forget a lot are our re-usable bags. And I LOVE those things. So I’m going to start storing them in the car so I don’t forget them.
We are planning on walking throughout most of the summer, trying to leave the vehicle parked. Thanks!
We are going to try and use cloth napkins more and paper napkins less!
We’re starting to use only one car to get to work by carpooling or using public transportation. Less gas, less emissions!
I’m starting to use lots of those reusable bags! They’re actually bigger and sturdier too, so that’s a perk.
We already do a lot, but this year we are trying to not buy fruits and veggies from the grocery store. Whatever we’re not growing, we plan to buy from local produce stands and the farmer’s market. We’re supporting local agriculture and we’re not paying for our food to be shipped across the country!
Tracie´s last blog post…Cutie pie LIam
I am going to to try to make decisions in the store to buy things with less packaging or with packaging that can be recycled. I want to use reusable bags and rags instead of paper towels. I guess, I want to trim back on some areas where I have allowed convenience to win over environmental care.
This year we planted a large garden and I look forward to all of the veggies. Whatever we don’t grow I plan on buying from the farmer’s market. I want to buy locally as much as possible. I also plan on making my own napkins in a bid to get away from paper towels.
We are trying to increase our recycling, while decreasing our waste – what goes straight to the dump. We have two trash cans – one for regular waste, and the other labeled for recycling. I’m rinsing out bottles and cans and things to go in there and we fill it a lot faster than the waste can.
Hmmmm… If I say it, I’ll have to do it! I have been living green for quite a while, including moving to a location where we can bike to most stuff, but I am a closet water hog. I hand wash our dishes, but do it under running water (!!!) because it’s fast and easy. I need to start using a dishpan system to cut back on water and heating use.
These bags look awesome! Thanks!
Lee´s last blog post…A Tale of Two Princesses
Those bags look great, much prettier than the kinds I currently use. To be more eco friendly, I recently added two things to my daily routine: first I put up a clothes line in my backyard and use it all the time. Second, I picked up some mess produce bags to use for my shopping, including when I’m at the farmer’s market, to replace the disposable plastic bags you normally use.
Plus I’m looking into finding someone who can make me reusuable snack bags (without spending a small fortune) to go along with the litterless lunches my children currently have at school.
Jenny´s last blog post…The Great Turkey Hunt
One thing I’m doing is growing my own veggies… so far we have lettuce, tomatoes, beets, strawberries, radishes, and rhubarb on the got.
I’d like to install a clothesline to dry our clothes… with all the laundry we have to do this will help cut down on electricity consumption!
This summer I plan on building a solar oven with the kids, and making the $15 compost bin you gave directions for (perfect for our small yard!)
Casey´s last blog post…Welcome Summer!
I want to use earth-friendlier cleaning products. I’ve recycled and used cloth napkins for years.
Cool Offer!! Thank you! The big thing we have been doing this year is changing over our light bulbs to the CFL type. This has been a great thing that we are all very committed too. I am also using reusable grocery bags~and we have stopped using throw away water bottles whenever possible!
After finishing the internal renovation of our house, we are starting on the outside now. Hoping to get my rainbarrel and compost bins up in the next month or so.
I’ve started a garden this year! I’m also working on setting up a composting system.
We have started line drying our clothes instead of using the dryer. We are also going to start “harvesting” the grey water and use in our garden!!! Summer is going to be great this year!
rani shah´s last blog post…Masalamamas and change!
We, as a family have just started to really watch and make sure that we recycle as much as we can. What I would like to incorporate is shopping with reusable bags (I have a couple, but tend to forget them at home) and also to make my childs snacks for school instead of buying the prepackaged ones. That would save on a lot of recylcable waste.
Plan on keeping home temp. up in summer and down in winter. And we will be walking more (we live in a downtown area) instead of driving to and fro…(even with a newborn, 2, and 3 yr old!)
Lovely Bags!
We are going to be using homemade cleansers or environment friendly ones. We will be using less paper towels and more rags, reusable bags for our shopping and recycle everything we can (which we actually do now for quite some time). We will also be eating less meat and more vegetables and fruit.
We are riding our bikes to local stores and parks.
We try to reduce, re-use, and recycle , as often as possible. Newspapers to a local elderly center. No small loads of laundry . Environmentally friendly cleaning product.

Well, I’m already making an effort to buy more used clothes, or to make my own – especially with repurposed fabrics (old bedsheets etc.) which is rather new for me. But, I’ve also just become the creative activities person for our Church’s MOPs (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, and I think I’m going to try and incorporate “green” ideas into a lot of our creative activities.

We already are very eco-conscious, but the one thing I want to do this year is grow my own tomatoes and make sauce to can for this winter instead of buying jarred sauce. I love envirosax!
Joanna´s last blog post…I have not dropped off the face of the earth!
I’d like to start making my own cleaning supplies and use many more natural products in my home.
We’re switching from disposable diapers to cloth and filling our dinner plates with veggies purchased through our local CSA.
Emily´s last blog post…Another One Bites the Dust
We have planted veggies and fruit plants this spring and plan to grown and eat our own produce this summer! I have also switched over to reusable lunch sacks for my kids. Less waste in the garbage at the park this summer!
Funny thing..plan on buying reuseable bags! This would be a G-R-E-A-T start!
Hi there,
Now that my kids aren’t tots anymore, I’m going to use their old baby washcloths in an old kleenex box, so we can wipe runny noses with them instead of facial tissue. I can wash them and reuse!
We are considering getting a Reel Mower.
We have been slowly making changes in our family – so I hope to be able to follow through with them! (planted our own veggies & fruits, using re-usable bags, green cleaning products, hang drying our laundry, etc).
Great giveaway!

Gina´s last blog post…Family Vacation 2009
I am attempting a small garden, tho I’m having a lot of bug problems. Anyone out there have some tips?
I have many other high hopes for being more eco-friendly, but I won’t get ahead of myself
One step at a time.
Steph @ Dirt Won’t Hurt´s last blog post…What do you do with your free time?
We camp a lot and will attempt to be more enviro-friendly this year by using washable plates, cutlery and cups as opposed to styrofoam. We also aim to use wash/dry cloths instead of paper towels and resealable tubs that last so much longer than plastic baggies, which often get icky and then tossed after a single use. Yay for reusable bags!
We are doing two things: eating more local produce and growing a few things of our own.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway! My son could use one of these for when he starts full day school next September.
I am working on recycling starting with paper. We home school and generate a lot of paper waste so I have created a recycle box and have been using it!
i’m trying to buy less packaged products & more fresh. less waste, and definitely healthier! thanks for the chance! happy memorial day.
Repurposing whenever possible. As a family of 6 we need to take seriously the cost of waste.
I have switched to buying items at local thrift stores for as many of my needs as possible! Also, am looking into using the local Freecycle—like Gregslist, but everything is FREE and LOCAL, so recycles AND saves gas!
We have never been a recycling family but we have decided that we will give it a try! We are more conscious of the things that could be recycled and want to do what we can! It seems small but the impact is BIG — especially if lots of people do it!
Our family just started an organic garden this year, and we’ve also set up a simple and cheap composting system. I’m pretty excited about it! We’re also planning on participating more often in re-use networks like craigslist and freecycle so we don’t throw away what might be just what someone was looking for. We’ve scored a few treasures that way ourselves!
What great bags! My goal this year is to collect enough bags to bring all the groceries home in. This bag would certainly help. We recycle the regular grocery bags, but I’m looking forward to not needing them anymore. Love your ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Compost food waste
We are moving and we plan to use nothing but natural cleaners and “make your own” household supplies!
I plan to start using reusable shopping bags! So this giveaway is very timely, wouldn’t you say? =)
I am trying to increase my use of reusable bags, and repurpose things in my home (like paper, cardboard, and old food containers) for crafts with the kids and other household needs.
I’m not going to buy commercial cleaning products – I plan to make my own natural cleaners.
I plan to buy more Natural cleaners, use less electricity, and take my own bags to the stores.
Angie´s last blog post…Review and Giveaway: 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter Season 2 DVD
I’m going to increase our composting and I hope to buy reusable fruit/veggie bags for the supermarket. We already use reusable grocery bags, but I still end up with lots of little plastic bags from the fruits and veggies. I cringe every time I throw away a handful of those things!
We are trying to be more aware of what we are buying and trying to buy organic foods. We are also growing a garden.
I’m going to make sure I REMEMBER to use my reusable bags every time I go to the store.
Beth @ Smart Family Tips´s last blog post…Go Green, Live Rich Giveaway
We are going to hang up our clothes to dry – outside on the new line in the summer, and inside on a ceiling beam near our fireplace in the winter. I love it!
We are reusing as much as humanly possible – especially plastic grocery bags (I fully intend to get cloth ones soon!) and paper bags.
We plan to give up paper towels–should be interesting, heh!
We are trying to use more rags instead of paper towels, thanks!
This summer we’re making our own veg! We’ve moved and have an incredible patch to plant anything we want, finally!
