Sharpen Your Cooking Skills With a Handy Gadget

by Tsh on January 28, 2009

in giveaways

This giveaway is now closed.  The winners are Jen E, Erin, Doran, Adrienne G, and Uncommon Blonde – congratulations!

Next up in the Week of Giveaways is from Smith’s, the leading creator of quality knife sharpeners.  If you’ve ever tried effective cooking with dull knives, you can appreciate having a quality tool like a razor-sharp knife at your disposal in the kitchen.

It’s important to keep your knives in good condition if you don’t want frustation during meal prep.  And as you probably know, it’s actually easier to cut yourself with a dull knife than with a sharp one – sharp ones are safer.

We have three different Smith’s knife sharpeners in our home, and they’re all so easy to use.  In fact, this morning I sharpened our hair scissors with the V-Slot 10 Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener.  Just a few quick swipes through the sharpener, and my inexpensive scissors cut my bangs with razor-sharp precision.

Smith’s is giving five Simple Mom readers the very same V-Slot 10 Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener! This sharpener retails for $10.

either my super easy risotto (made in the rice cooker) or what i am making tonight – a chicken and prune tagine + couscous – easy and so delicious.

avatar Email From The Embassy

Minestrone, lentil, or any kind of soup. Add salad and bread, and you’re done. I make a double batch in the morning and I’m done with two meals by noon. Making soup can involve lots of chopping, though, so a good sharpener could come in handy.

I’m seconding the soup. I make two or three pots of soup a week for my family in the winter months. We love lentil soup, quinoa soup, and any hearty vegetable soup. It takes a lot of veggie chopping and right now my DH hand-sharpens our knives; he would be especially appreciative of a sharpening gadget like this!
Thanks for the chance to enter!

avatar Emma

This is a no-brainer: meatloaf, green beans, and homemade mac & cheese. I have a VERY picky almost-10-year-old, and this is one meal I know he’ll eat, every time.

In fact, I just made meatloaf last night, and was loving the sharpness of my new knives (Christmas gift from the ILs). Be nice to have an easy way to keep them sharp. :-)

My favorite thing to cook is salmon fillets with sundried tomato dressing. SO fast and yet a really delicious meal, and good for you too! (and yes, it is that easy — marinate the salmon in the dressing, saute some garlic in a pan and then add the salmon and marinade and saute for 5-7 minutes each side. Serve with the glaze that the marinade made — yummy!)
