I love Easter, mostly because it’s the one time of year people actually focus on the most important event in history. But I also love the dawn of spring, and the celebrations we have as a family to welcome more outdoor time, more stopping to smell the wildflowers, and a general sense of rebirth in our lives.
I also love that, unlike Christmas, isn’t hasn’t become too crazily commercial. I mean, it’s definitely on its way… But instead of six weeks of decorating and eating and spending more, more, more, most people simple enjoy a weekend of being with friends and family.
This is the first Easter we’ve had among family in three years, so I look forward to that this weekend. In the meantime, I thought I’d share some of my favorite finds from around the blogosphere that help celebrate Easter.
Perhaps your family could try one or two of these ideas.

No project here…but I did learn that eggs should not be eaten if they have been out for more than 2 hours. My daughter wanted to eat the egg she decorated yesterday so I had to switch it with a fresh boiled egg in the fridge!

Thanks for sharing my spring mantel! And I hope you have a wonderful Easter with your family.
I was just having a conversation with my husband about how grateful we are that Easter isn’t ridiculously commercial. It makes focusing on the true celebration so much easier.
I just got back from buying some candy for the kid’s baskets (because I ate all the candy I bought 2 weeks ago) and I’m looking forward to a weekend with family.
Happy Easter!

I loved this idea “Easter Story Cookies” on flythroughourwindow.com. She has directions printed in a printable PDF too: http://www.flythroughourwindow.com/2010/03/update-holy-week-a-recycle/
Amen on keeping it simple. My husband and I live in France and we just stopped by a chocolate shop yesterday and saw people purchasing 30-60 euro chocolate rabbits. . .that’s pricey! I’d rather make my own treats. I’ll probably bake something.

Love the ideas – thanks everyone. Try some cool Easter egg chalk when you’re planning some time outside. The kids love the chalk and the shape of the eggs actually makes them very easy to hold, even for the smaller kids.

When I was growing up, Easter meant that the crocuses were in bloom and we were going to look for a new dress to wear to mass and brunch on Easter Sunday. What I looked forward to the most, however, was the scavenger hunt my father put on for us, with challenging clues we had to answer to move on to our next treasure.
And the fact that spring had arrived.
