One of the fun perks to the eco-savvy trend is all the great products out there now. And many times, their initial cost is worth the money-saving benefit they provide in the long run. Today, several of you will have a chance to win some!

Reusable bags are one of the easiest ways to go green – and let’s face it, they’re so much cuter than plastic grocery bags. Almost 1 trillion plastic bags are annually consumed worldwide, and they’re not biodegradable.

In the month I’ve had my reusable bags, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using them. When I whip one out from my purse in the checkout line, the most common response I get is, “Those are so cool!” I don’t think I’ll ever go back to using plastic.

Here are the brands I’ve enjoyed using, and who are rewarding a few Simple Mom readers with some of their bags.

Shop Wise Bags

• Perks – These durable oilcloth bags are shaped just like traditional grocery sacks, so they fold up nicely and stand up well. I’ve been using mine lately to cart around diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes for my kids in the car. And I love all their great patterns and colors.

• Giveaway – One reader will win a set of three high-quality Shop Wise bags!

Envirosax

Perks – These bags are much bigger than they seem. They hold so much stuff, and they’re easy to fold up and secure with the velcro tabs. They’re pretty, too.

• Giveaway – One reader will win a set of five Envirosax bags!

B. Happybags

• Perks – These high-quality, durable canvas bags can hold a lot of stuff, and their wide openings mean I can toss big things along with no problem. Plus, they’re adorable.

• Giveaway – One reader will win four B. Happybags!

ACME Bags

• Perks – These are mesh bags, which are perfect for produce. They fold up tiny, so you can hold multiple in your purse no problem. I’m so impressed with how durable they are – for as lightweight as they are, they can really hold some heavy stuff.

• Giveaway – One reader will win three ACME mesh bags from ReusableBags.com!

RuMe

Perks – I love how this micro bag folds up securely and easily, and its medium-sized shape holds things neatly. We use ours to tote books and crayons to and from the car.

Giveaway – One reader will win a micro RuMe, a 13 ounce Earthlust bottle, and a Wrap-n-Mat from Mama Goes Green – all things I use and love!

Flip & Tumble

• Perks – These bags scrunch up nicely, and the colors are great, too. The 24-7 bags wads up into a ball, which means you’re carrying an instant toy for small children – and I love the felt shoulder pad, because normally bags and purses are always falling off my shoulder.

• Giveaway – One reader will win one 24-7 bag and two Loopt bags!

How to Win:

1. To be one of the six winners, leave a comment on this post and answer this questionWhat else do you reuse or repurpose around your home?

We’re always looking for ways to “precycle” — not creating new trash. So we started buying our milk from a local dairy, where we have to buy glass jars that get refilled. We buy twice as many jars as what we use in a week (we use 2 per week, so we bought 4 jars), and drop off empty jars when we pick up our new order. It’s so old-fashioned and fun!

I reuse glass jars. I use them for storing nails, safety pins, beads, anything you can think of.
These bags are all great. Thanks!

3 Stephne November 19, 2008 at 9:41 am

We’ve planted herbs in tin cans, use most excess plastic for craft supplies (found directions online for making shrinky-dinks out of no 5 plastic containers), cloth grocery bags, plastic grocery bags for trash liners, cloth diapers and wipes, cloth dinner napkins, repurposing old clothes into outfits for our daughters.

4 Amy November 19, 2008 at 9:41 am

Wow! What a great giveaway!

I wash out my ziplock bags, use reusable shopping bags (although mine aren’t as nice as these), buy most of my families clothing at thrift stores, and reuse all the plastic/glass containers that food comes in.

5 Sara November 19, 2008 at 9:42 am

We reuse just about everything around here… the necessity of farm life I suppose. Scraps to compost, scratch paper, everything in canning jars (food and craft stuff), and fabric scraps sewn up by the 5yo into kitten toys.

I absolutely love the old/new fashioned idea of taking your own bags to the stores, now if I could just develop a trick for remembering to take them with me! : )

6 Kristine November 19, 2008 at 9:44 am

I actually reused my plastic bags for doggie-duty cleanup. Since I started using the fabric-ish totes for grocery, I’m running out of duty bags!
Second reuse – that last page from a website printing is usually 1 line. UGH! We flip it over and stick it back into the printer and use it again.

7 Libby November 19, 2008 at 9:44 am

What else do you reuse or repurpose around your home?

I reuse plastic containers – like chinese takeout soup containers, and milk jugs – as planters to start plants in, using the winter sowing method – fill with dirt and water and seeds, and put it outside in January. When the spring comes, you have healthy hearty plants! I actually scavange these containers from my neighbor’s recycling bins, since we don’t get many plastic containers usually. Come spring, if the containers aren’t reusable still, I will then recycle them, otherwise I save them for the next winter.

I reuse the huge plastic bins that my cat litter comes in, to use as buckets, and to transport alpaca poop from a friend’s farm to my house to use as fertilizer in my garden.

I reuse most of the boxes I get over the year to give christmas presents in – especially fun or funky boxes. Why buy a box from the store, when you can get them for free and get a little reuse out of them? I love to take boxes and re-decorate them in funny ways. I also use the cardboard from those boxes to make covers for self-bound books to give to friends and family, and for other arts & crafts.

I save the seeds from plants in the garden, to plant again next year – that way I don’t have to buy seeds, which come in paper or plastic packets. I store them in labeled envelopes, which get reused year after year.

And, I reuse food waste by turning it into compost to then put in my garden. You can never have too much compost! My plants love it.

8 Kyndale November 19, 2008 at 9:44 am

Sweet! I always bring my re-usable bags to the store but I am always looking for a good produce bag.

9 Aimeemomof2 November 19, 2008 at 9:45 am

We re-purpose just about everything we can…clothes, food (leftovers into new meals), old sheets, old tablecloths (into cement goose outfits)…etc

10 Sarah Bray November 19, 2008 at 9:46 am

We re-use all of the plastic and glass containers that processed food comes in. Never having to buy Tupperware is a great perk!

11 Vanessa November 19, 2008 at 9:48 am

I re-use our plastic grocery bags for trash can liners, lunches, small trash that seems to hang around the house, trash bag for in the cars, etc.

I also re-use computer paper for coloring on if it is no longer needed, quick notes, etc.

12 Crystal November 19, 2008 at 9:48 am

We reuse plastic containers, egg crates, paper towel tubes, etc. for crafts. Other than that, we do a lot of recycling but not a lot of reusing.

13 Amy November 19, 2008 at 9:48 am

We try to reuse any plastic or paper bags that come into the house for doggy poop pickup or baby diaper disposal. Large plastic yogurt containers are always used for bathtime play and shampoo rinsing!

14 Autumnesf November 19, 2008 at 9:48 am

You know those plastic hangers with the clips on the ends for pants and skirts? We cut those off and use them for chip clips or bag clips.

Love the bags!

I reuse my son’s wipe containers for toys and art supplies, shoe boxes for my craft supplies and my son repurposes everything for toys!

16 Trish November 19, 2008 at 9:51 am

I wash out and reuse ziplock baggies often (as long as they haven’t been used for meat), plastic containers (cool-whip, cottage cheese, etc.), old clothing or any fabric gets saved for when I have time to sew and re-purpose it (I hope to use some old sheets for fabric grocery sacks). Veggie and fruit peelings go outside for compost, too.

17 AgnesMinerva November 19, 2008 at 9:51 am

Just some of the things we repurpose in our house … plastic grocery bags (leftover from the “old days” when we didn’t have re-usable ones, and then sometimes when we do forget to bring our own) become bread bags for our homemade bread; big, clear plastic juice bottles (when we buy it) are re-styled into garden cloches; milk cartons become planters for seedlings; hot cocoa canisters get covered with pretty paper to become pencil- and paintbrush- holders; I used some of our old CD cases to frame art for my son’s room; and just about everything you can think of can become a craft supply.

What a fun giveaway! Here’s where I blogged about it: http://agnesminerva.blogspot.com/2008/11/mamas-got-brand-new-bag.html

I reuse just about everything I can, partly for the environmental benefits and partly for the extra change in my purse. I also try not to purchase things in the first place, and I look hard for things around my house I can use in a different way, rather than purchasing something new. In my experience, what’s good for your body (and often good for your wallet) is often good for the environment as well. It makes me pause and think that maybe we really were all designed to coexist together, but we just forgot how.

Many of the things I do aren’t too original, and probably many of you are doing these things and more, but here’s what I have to offer. I have canvas bags (like the free one you get from the Nature Conservancy or the one my company gave me when I started work) that I use for grocery bags. They’ve held up for years and are machine-washable. I’m a hoarder of glass jars that grocery items come in. I use them for spices, for homemade salad dressing, left over marinade, spare buttons, spare change, pens – endless possibilities. I take used (non-recyclable) wrapping paper and run it through my shredder (newspaper also works well) and use it for more festive packing material or for stuffing gift bags. I haven’t purchased a water bottle in years. Even at the airport, I bring an empty one from home and fill it at a water fountain once I’m through security. Cardboard tubes (paper towel rolls, cabinet liner) are great for sword fights (as stated above), megaphones, telescopes, etc. You can also make a periscope from empty aluminum foil boxes and small mirrors in your make-up compacts.

20 Monica Bertone November 19, 2008 at 9:54 am

We reuse paper towel and toilet paper tubes, and use them for crafts. We also reuse Jars, to hold small items such as screws, nuts, buttons, beads, and such. I love reusable bags, I have a collection going. But I use them for everything… and the best part they are easily washed! I would love to win! Thanks!

We reuse lots of things… Right now I’m so thankful for the bins of hand-me-down clothing from my sisters-in-law. Babies grow so quickly, and I’m happy to not only put this clothing to good use, but also to save money because I don’t have to buy new stuff!

I repurpose pieces of ribbon, buttons, etc, for my scrapbooks. I also have a wonderful collection of paper samples from printing companies that I salvaged from the graphic designers in my office. The suppliers put together beautiful booklets to showcase the different colours and weights of paper they carry, and all of these booklets were going to be recycled because they were not current. They are perfect for scrapbooks and making handmade cards!

22 Jen November 19, 2008 at 9:59 am

I’ve been reusing the ziploc plastic sandwich and snack bags and rewashing and drying them to reuse. I’ve also reused the plastic bags from the stores as garbage can liners. And whenever I get those envelopes with bills to send back, I use online banking, and reuse those envelopes for grocery lists and such.

23 Melanie November 19, 2008 at 9:59 am

I reuse glass jars in many ways. I look at other things in how I can make a project with my kids using them.

24 Laura November 19, 2008 at 10:01 am

There are very few paper products that don’t get re used around here. Catalogs and junk mail get cut up and turned into art projects (my 4 year old is into scissoring lately), toilet paper tubes and cardboard boxes are used for sculptures, and we start a lot of winter fires with what doesnt get used up on the art table.

what a fun giveaway! i’m a sucker for reusable bags. i have a few from different stores but none this cute! in the last six months or so i’ve been changing things around my house. we now have two trash bins in the house; one for trash that can not be recycled and one for recycle goods. i’m also composting and a first year gardener! woot woot! i’ve been loving it! and it’s been fun to share it with my daughter and use it as a way to teacher her about the earth. two months ago i made the switch to cloth pads as well… i know it may seem weird but i love finding the cutest patterns to buy! ha! and as the raining season is soon to start here in northern california i’m in the search for a rain barrel. our latest addition to our family was two super cute pink klean kanteens, before we had a lot of plastic water bottles coming out of our house.
this change has been fun and we are always looking for more ways to keep getting greener! :o )

26 Megan November 19, 2008 at 10:02 am

Oh my goodness – I’d love any of those bags!!

Our biggest ‘green’ switch – was using rags and cloth napkins instead of paper products. We also ditched disposables (oh if youd seen me in my ‘pre-green’ days, i even used disposable cookie sheets – i was SO lazy!!! Our cereal was eaten out of plastic bowls with plastic spoons every morning!) – it not only shrunk our budget, but reduced our use of plastics too (we’re in the process of getting rid of all plastics in the kitchen, BPA scares me!).

Love the bags. I have completely shifted to reusable bags and look forward to making my own… once I find the time. At home, we recycle all paper packaging. I try to buy products with packaging that either can be re-used around the house or go into recycling.

Our town also utlizes the Recycle Bank program for our recycling. This way the homeowners receive Recycle Bank points for the volume of products they recycle. The points can be used at Ikea and Starbucks and other establishments. This brought about a 90% increase in recycling in our town.

These bags are so much prettier than the ones I have purchased from the supermarket! My favorite things to repurpose are the plastic single serve applesauce dishes. We use them for painting during craft time; organizing paper clips, rubber bands, push pins, etc.; serving snacks; and playing kitchen.

30 Erin November 19, 2008 at 10:11 am

We reuse the few plastic grocery bags we still have in the house. They’re used for picking up dog poop in the yard and we scoop the cat littler poop into them as well. I’ve reused a couple of cute 28-oz tomato cans for basil plants in my windowsill. My goal for the new year is to move to cloth napkins in lieu of paper. For Christmas I hope (if I can find time) to embroider napkins for all four of us so we can distinguish what belongs to whom. As always, thanks for the inspiration.

It may sound silly, but I am a huge fan of reusing ziploc bags. If nothing smelly or liquid was in them, I rinse them out and use them again!

34 Lauren November 19, 2008 at 10:14 am

It’s my birthday and I’d love to win one of these cool bags! We reuse lots of kid-related stuff, diaper boxes, wipe tubs etc. for storing toys and outgrown clothes. Then when we’re ready to hand them down we can give away the container too.

35 Browniesmoke November 19, 2008 at 10:14 am

I use the nice grocery sack bags from Reuseablebags.com for my groceries – and my daughter uses the laptop lunchbox for school. We love that! I try to use as many tupperware-like containers as I can – and my sigg waterbottle!

36 Lisa November 19, 2008 at 10:14 am

Gorgeous bags! We re-purpose old socks for dusting and plastic food containers become great catch-alls for office supplies, toys, puzzle pieces or snacks.

37 heather November 19, 2008 at 10:16 am

Neat reviews. Have you ever looked at morsbags.com? It’s a project to get people together to sew reusable grocery bags & give them away at grocery stores. They provide a great pattern for a sturdy reusable grocery bag.

We put kitchen scraps in a compost pile, recycle the usual suspects, and reuse as much as possible. We also shop for 2nd hand stuff whenever possible.

We bought canvas bags a few years ago and have been using those at the grocery store (and love how they are so much better than plastic!) but our cats had an accident on them and when we washed them they shrunk and they are stained. I would love to have more (we also run out) and ones that aren’t old and worn! Great give away.

39 Unsinkable Kristen November 19, 2008 at 10:18 am

I repurpose a lot of things but probably the most fun is that I save interesting paper — from junk mail, greeting cards other people send me, etc. — and make new greeting cards by sewing different papers onto card stock in a collage. The result: (free) handmade cards that people love.

41 Melissa November 19, 2008 at 10:21 am

At my baby shower, I received so many washcloths: the thin ones for newborns and the thicker terry-cloth ones, too. Once BB started eating food, I discovered that the thin ones are perfect for post-meal wipe-ups. They are the right size, rinse easily, and dry quickly. Plus, this way I’m not throwing away a zillion paper towels or rubbing rough paper towels on his baby-soft face.
Awesome giveaways!

42 Sarah H. November 19, 2008 at 10:21 am

What fun bags! I’ve been considering switching to reusable bags recently since both my grocery stores now offer them (for sale).

In my house we actually reuse the plastic bags we get with our store purchases! I use them as garbage bin liners or for my cat’s litter. At least that way I feel like I am getting more than one use out of them.

One thing that I reuse that others might not: if you use dryer sheets, don’t pitch them after the first use. Save a couple of them that have been through the dryer once, and use them together on another load. You’ll never notice the difference in smell or static!

We try to reuse everything around the house that we can. Worn clothes are turned into handkerchiefs or cleaning rags, tupperware, lunch bags, grocery bags, garage sales, consignment shops, cloth napkins (that we take to restaurants with us so we don’t use any paper), etc. It would be very nice to have some more bags! They look great!!!

48 Mandy November 19, 2008 at 10:32 am

What a GREAT give-away!

We cut up all paper to use for scratch paper in the house, and use reusable grocery bags that are not nearly as good looking as these are!

We also take great care to only use what lights we truly need, using natural sunlight whenever possible, and use CFL’s in all our lights to help save even more.

49 Laura November 19, 2008 at 10:34 am

This is my first time posting here. I found your blog through another site which isn’t coming to mind at the moment. I just love reusable bags. I brought a bunch when they first came out at our local grocery store. They had them 2/$1. I use them for everything…sorting recyclables, library books, impromptu diaper bag, you name it. We also reuse lots of stuff around here. Small yogurt containers are great for holding paint and water during craft time, cereal boxes make great boats, houses and castles. We have a set of 3 cabinets in the kitchen that are devoted to craft materials and they are overflowing!

At work any time we print something out it prints an extra ‘header’ page with our user ID on it to separate the different print jobs. So I put those on a special pile and eventually take it home for Princess to use as scrap paper for coloring and art projects.
Then we re-use all the catalogs that come in the mail as a source of pictures for her to cut and glue on those header printouts and make a collage.

We have a tray for any school papers, mail, flyers or printed mess-ups that have print only on one side to be used in place of fresh new paper for all of the incidental print outs needed daily: recipes, directions, rough drafts, articles to read, etc. and we always print in “fast draft” mode to save ink and time.

54 Samantha R November 19, 2008 at 10:41 am

We re-use plastic bags or recycle them when we get too many. Scratch paper in our house is any piece of paper that has one blank side on it. My husband take plastic utensils to work for lunch (that way if it gets lost its not a big deal), but he brings the plastic utensils home each day so that we can wash them and use them again (this also saves money:) ). We also use egg cartons to start seeds for our garden.

55 jodi November 19, 2008 at 10:42 am

I reuse tissue paper & gift bags for sure…also use a lot of the other random bags that come into our house for something or other. I’m a clutter-bug by nature, so it’s a battle to find the balance between saving EVERYTHING (and for no purpose or it can’t be found) and really reusing things appropriately…still working on it!

I reuse the little babyfood plastic containers (from the few times I caved and bought babyfood – mostly for travel purposes, since I love to make my own baby food). I have two boys (2 and 4) and we love to create. We keep boxes from just about everything, paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, packaging, etc. and create art work, build structures, make swords, etc. I always like to reuse plastic containers (i.e. yogurt cups, cottage cheese or sour cream containers) for my work lunches or as containers for art supplies/paint/water, etc. If we can’t use it, we recycle it. Thanks!

glass jars are a biggie–especially since all the bpA fuss, I’ve been trying to get rid of more and more plastic for food storage. We have a set of envirosax, and love them, too. I buy french bread almost every week (its the only bread I can’t make successfully by myself) and it comes in a large paper sack. I harvest the crumbs into a recycled oatmeal container, and cut the bag across one side and the bottom. This leaves us with a nice large piece of good paper, white on the inside, for big crayon murals or cutting ito interesting art projects. Yay!

At my work there are many coffee hungry drinkers that seem to go through the stuff by the gallon. The result? Many, many, many of those big 3 lb coffee tins. They have been repurosed in our home as Playmobil storage, pretend mail boxes and stilts. Now word is out and I seem to be gathering a mountain of these tins and will have to start thinking of some other things to do with them.

65 mom2riandkayl November 19, 2008 at 10:54 am

I save all of my dryer lint to use to start fires in our fireplace. Really.

66 desiree November 19, 2008 at 10:55 am

i’m a big re-user of paper grocery bags. they become anything from a recycle bin under my sink, to a great blank canvas for my daughter to paint on!

67 Jenn November 19, 2008 at 10:56 am

I use cloth diapers daily, but sometimes use Seventh Generation paper diapers. Since I don’t use them too often she grew out of the sizes before I was able to use them all. In order to get use out of them and not waste them, I lay the too small ones INSIDE of the larger one. The larger diaper holds the too small one in place! So, I’ve been able to get rid of all the size newborn, size 1 and size 2′s using them inside of the size 3′s.

I also re-use glass jars for storing food in, now that I don’t use any plastic.

68 megan November 19, 2008 at 10:57 am

I reuse the plastic wipes containers as organizers in my son’s dresser (for socks, toiletries, etc.) We cut up old clothes for craft projects. And use matchless socks (surely I’m not the only one with a billion of these!) for dusting rags.

Awesome giveaway! We still get weird looks at Kroger when we pull out our canvas grocery bags but maybe its because they aren’t pretty enough!

I am a peanut butter jar hoarder. They are useful for so many things!

70 Kaycee November 19, 2008 at 11:00 am

We reuse any plastic bags we do end up with for things like bathroom trashcans, transporting lunches to work, etc. We also reuse baby food containers, ice cream tubes, and other plastic containers for storage. We have some IKEA tubs in our garage for recycling everything else we don’t reuse! :)

I actually lost my produce reusable bags at the store last night and no one turned them in. :( So I hope I win some here so I don’t have to order more!

71 Jackie November 19, 2008 at 11:02 am

I reuse plastic baby food containers to freeze small cubes of pesto, tomato paste, anything that I have leftover that could be thrown into something in small amounts.

I also reuse ziplock freezer bags.

And any plastic container from food (hummus, dips, sour cream, etc.) I wash and keep for a time when I need to take someone food (but not want them to feel a need to return the dishes), or for extra crayons, crafts, or anything else that might need a cottage cheese container.

72 Dana November 19, 2008 at 11:02 am

i have a few of the meijer reusable bags, but these are WAY cuter and sound like they will last lots longer. my husband and i have taken up the challenge to use ZERO paper towel, so we’ve been using rags made from old clothes. we also have been making our own cleaning products.

love the bags and the giveaway!

73 michelle November 19, 2008 at 11:03 am

We try and repurpose pretty much everything (there’s is no throwing anything “away” any more, y’know?). That includes rubber bands from produce for sealing bags of chips, nuts, etc. or simply the backs of paper from work for lists and scribbling. The biggest repurposing project though, is our compost bin. You’d be amazed at what can go in there. Not just food scraps, but our coffee grounds and filters from every morning’s brew as well as our shredded bills and documents.

My latest reuse of things is clothes. It started with a dress of mine that the strap broke. I took the dress and remade a dress for my 1 year old daughter. This gave me more ideas and I am having fun taking clothes my husband and I won’t wear anymore and sewing them in to cute outfits for my daughter.

Paper bags, ice cream buckets, Ziploc bags, glass jars…

77 Camille November 19, 2008 at 11:04 am

I have to say, I never knew such cute and trendy RE-USE-ABLE bags existed–very cool!
I’m also one of the many that re-use bags (paper and plastic), jars, containers, lids, clothes, and so much paper.
Great post!!

78 Jenn November 19, 2008 at 11:05 am

I use too-small paper diapers inside of larger ones so as not to waste them. I use glass jars from for storing food, instead of plastic ones. I reuse plastic zip locks for freezing my bread. I re-use grocery store plastic bags for scooping the litter box. I use the library instead of buying books. I also use Freecycle a lot.

Great giveaway!

79 Mrs. F November 19, 2008 at 11:05 am

I bought water bottles so that I no longer have to buy bottled water. They have already paid for themselves in all my not-buying-bottled-water savings.

I have definitely been going green, and in California, it’s almost a must! We recycle almost everything. And I use reusable grocery bags. sometimes we forget them and get plastic, but then i use them to take lunch to school, or pass them on to our friend as doggy doo bags.

I have made my own cloth bags from t shirts.

I have also cut up old t shirts to turn into rags (we go through WAY fewer paper towels this way). Knowing I have about 50 rags makes me much more prone to just grab one for a quick spill!

We repurpose toilet paper! I’m totally kidding, leave it to my husband to come up with that comment :) In the winter, we keep all of our paper trash in a bin to use as fire starter. I also reuse the plastic tubs that the thin sliced deli meat comes in. I put my husband’s lunch in them to take to work.

Love them all, cut especially the B. Happy bags. We don’t have curbside pick up in our small community, sooooo I drop the newspapers off at a local church, and then drive to the next town over, to drop off cans and plastics at Wally World.

I reuse tons of stuff, including clothing. I take outgrown or worn out clothes, and turn it into new clothes, bags, or whatever else I can think of.

84 Sarah November 19, 2008 at 11:13 am

What an awesome giveaway! We love to re-purpose old furniture, and instead of building a new house, we bought a 1920s bungalow and painstakingly restored it to our style. We also try to buy gently used toys and clothes for our 1-year-old. Thanks so much for this giveaway!

85 Kelli November 19, 2008 at 11:14 am

I try to reuse all glass ware that food comes in — such as jars from pickles, olives, etc. I also only use foil and enviro. friendly wax paper in my kitchen instead of saran wrap, so I make sure I reuse both of these items by rinsing and drying so I can get the most out of them before I have to toss them.

I never knew there were so many companies marketing these reuseable bags. Some are really pretty. I try to reuse the jars that come into my house for craft storage and organizing.

I use old tissue boxes as trash containers for my car. Even when the tissue/trash is jostled around, the trash stays in the box.

88 Elizabeth Hilton November 19, 2008 at 11:19 am

I reuse the plastic bags that I currently get (until I get a reuseable one!) for everything! To line my bathroom waste cans, to clean up doggie messess in teh back yard, to carry my lunch to work, ect. I also reuse scrap paper and junk mail to make my to do lists and grocery lists. I reuse cardboard boxes received in the mail for wrapping presents. There are so many things that can be repurposed!!

89 Karen November 19, 2008 at 11:19 am

Oh these are super cute reusable bags. I need to get in the habit of using these to help the environment.

Currently I just try to reuse containers to store other supplies in them for the kids. Nothing too fancy but it beats buying more stuff to store them in.

90 Josie November 19, 2008 at 11:20 am

Wonderful post! These bags are so adorable. We are trying to do our part to reduce reuse and recycle. We have hand-me-downs for most of the kids’ clothes. We reuse glass jars for canning/freezing food items.

91 Jeanne J November 19, 2008 at 11:20 am

How cool is this!? Love it! I reuse boxes, cards and cardboard in papercrafting–a LOT! :) Thx for the chance to win!

What else do you reuse or repurpose around your home?

Well I reuse plastic bags for trash and dirty diapers. I save some plastic containers (like yogurt) for storage, my husband’s hobby craft, and my daughter’s play things.

We re-use the plastic bags we get from the grocery store as garbage bags for our bathroom trash. Any plastic containers that food comes in gets re-used too, either as tupperware for my husband to carry his lunch in or my daughter uses them in her play kitchen. We always make sure to print on both sides of our printer paper and will often print things out on the back of cover letters that come with junk mail if we are printing out something for our own use (directions, etc…).

The other thing I do is swap magazines with our neighbor and some of my friends. I have two subscriptions and so does she (but to different magazines) and we swap after we are done reading, that way we get four magazines for the price of 2 and we aren’t using as much paper. Often times I’ll even swap magazines again with some of my friends.

97 Angie November 19, 2008 at 11:23 am

Gorgeous bags! Wow!

I am an avid re-user of furniture and decorative items. I get some free, some at garage sales, some thrift stores, some from friends who are tossing them. I LOVE to see what I can do with little to no money.

98 Carla November 19, 2008 at 11:25 am

Love these bags.. especially the patterned ones! Who wouldn’t love to tote these cute things around! lol!!

We’ll reuse containers that food comes in, ribbons, etc.. off of clothing, kids love to make crafts from egg cartons, etc… basically if we can find some way to reuse it and it’s functional, we will! :)

We reuse yogurt containers for water toys, sand scoops, and paint holders. Great size for little hands!

Love all the bag options. I have been using envirosax for a year now and love them. Now I see all the other possibilities!
In our house lately it seems that dishtowels are the wonder item. New ones take the place of paper towels and old ones are used to clean the flloors or end up in the car. I even have some old cloth diapers we used as burb cloths still in rotation.
