Assuming wipes are included with the diaper,
For Maya:
1. Water
2. Snack
3. Her favorite small dinosaur toy from the dollar store.

For me:
1. Phone
2. Wallet
3. Keys

I was going to say nappy(diaper), diaper bag (for smelly used nappy) and wipes but I will instead go for wipes, band aids, lollypops( for treats or distaction if needed)

Well, I have to say it's much easier getting out of the house with a 3-year old than any other age thus far, but my top three things are:

1. toy (usually more than one because he can never settle on just one)
2. snack
3. stroller (which I always keep in the trunk so I don't forget to pack it)

Mommy's top three things are:

1. cell phone
2. credit card
3. snack (mommies get hungry too)

I haven't done it in a while, but in hindsight I wish the essentials I never left home without had been (1) a Zen-like, being-in-the-present mindset, (2) an easygoing, can-do attitude, (3) the ability to enjoy all the little caught moments in the daily round and know that the challenging times were all part of it, too.

1. Diaper (for the youngest) and babywipes.
2. Snack and drink (banana/cookies and chocolate milk or juice in little tetra bricks)
3. A toy/book

In the car I always have a bigger bag containing more of the above as well as a change of clothes, plastic disposal bags, small first aid kit etc.
