Transform Your Paper Clutter Into Digital Organization

in giveaways

This giveaway is now closed. The winner is Stephanie – congratulations!

The next giveaway just makes my organizing heart flutter.  The Neat Company believes you shouldn’t have to work to use your information. They’ve developed intelligent products that transform information into something that works for you. Perfect for busy home managers.

Their products free the information that’s trapped on paper—so you can secure it, organize it, and use it. When your information is transformed, you are too—from cluttered to confident, from overwhelmed to accomplished.

The whole point of their products is to keep less paper.  After all, what we really want is the information on the paper, not the paper itself.

NeatReceipts is a hardware/software combo that allows users to scan, organize and digitize all their paper receipts and financial documents, and automates the tax preparation process. It is fully compatible with Turbo Tax, Quicken and QuickBooks, and the IRS accepts scanned images of receipts (you never know when that might be important).

Think of it as the digital filing cabinet – you can save, track and manage your information without the paper.  And one Simple Mom reader will win a NeatReceipts!

Here’s How To Win:

1. Leave a comment on this post, answering this question – What’s your biggest organizing challenge at home?

2. To get a second entry – and a second entry on all the giveaways this week – subscribe to the Simple Mom feed and email me the movie quote at the bottom of any post in your feed reader or email inbox (there is only one quote for all the giveaways). Send it to simplemomblog (at) gmail (dot) com, and put the quote directly in the subject line. The body of the email won’t be read.  And you only need to email me the quote once in order to get a second entry for all the week’s giveaways.

3. Finally, to get a third entry, post or tweet about this giveaway – if you use the URL of this post, I’ll receive it – no need to email me.

This giveaway is only eligible to US and Canadian residents.

This giveaway will end this Monday, February 2 at noon EST. I hope you win!

Along with everyone else, my problem area is the paper. I would love to win.

Paperwork is awful for me too! I can never seem to keep on top of it! I love the companies that send me electronic files. And my husband always has piles of receipts cluttering up everything, ugh!

My biggest organizing challenge is my receipts! This would be so awesome to have!!!

4 Kirsten January 31, 2009 at 6:51 am

This would be perfect because paper is my biggest problem. Normal household papers and school papers form five children. Paper is running my life!

5 Julie January 31, 2009 at 6:52 am

My kids stuff. We live in a small flat with different age kiddos and trying to get it all in a way that can be used. It is a huge challenge.

But my desk with all the paper is not that pretty either… oh my

My biggest challenge is me! I find myself on the computer with the intention of organizing my life….like that is an easy task!….and suddenly hours and hours have gone by. And funny thing, I have been trying to scan this years papers with little success. This new software just might do the trick for me.

I feel like I’m drowning in paper! I have a (bad?) habit of tearing up magazines to keep the articles, recipes, ideas, etc that intrigue me. Of course, they’re all sitting in a (big!) basket waiting for me to decide what to do with the daunting pile. UGH!

8 Kelly January 31, 2009 at 6:56 am

We have way too many CDs and DVDs and it is very difficult to separate the ones we use from the ones we should donate or sell.

9 Amy January 31, 2009 at 6:58 am

Paperwork and kid’s art and craft project. Somehow they end up everywhere.

Amy´s last blog post…Funny things

10 Hannah January 31, 2009 at 6:59 am

it’s for sure the papers. Even when I get them organized I still don’t have room to file them all. I usually end up with baskets of papers and then I have to go through the whole basket to find one paper. I’ve been thinking about the whole digital paper thing for months now.

11 Diane Conn January 31, 2009 at 7:02 am

Its a toss up between laundry and paper, but I think paper will win.

Keeping up with all the papers that come home from school!

13 Micha B January 31, 2009 at 7:03 am

my biggest organizing challenge is a lack of space.

i know everyone probably feels that way. i’ve downsized what i own quite a bit but i’m residing in my parents basement apartment temporarily and i have a hard time parting with things i know i’m going to need in 6 months when we move.

maybe it’s just that i like “stuff” too much. :P

14 Nicole January 31, 2009 at 7:04 am

Paper of course. I guess that is why they invented this nifty gadget. I just don’t know what to keep and basically don’t want to deal with it. We created files (probably way more than necessary) but never file anything! Then there’s the junk mail. Its so hard to recycle because you have to put it in a paper bag for recycling, but I don’t have any! Where do you get paper bags to recycle paper? I either use cloth shopping bags or get plastic at the store to use for trash. Ho hum.

15 Joni Hartman January 31, 2009 at 7:06 am

My biggest challenge at home is dealing with piles…whenever I open mail, I have a spot for bills–that is fine–but there are various coupons, magazines, to do lists, shopping, projects, stuff to give my girls when they come home, letters to mail, my calendar, stuff I want to read and keep, stuff to read and throw away, well, you get the idea. I have an organizer, but stuff just tends to stay in there, and never get looked at again. I need something that not only organizes all this stuff, but lets me know what I have, too. Any suggestions?

My biggest challenge is filing bills and important documents. I also struggle with all the receipts. I never feel like I get them organized properly…I just through them in a box and label it for the months or year.

19 Loretta January 31, 2009 at 7:08 am

My biggest organizing challenge. Hmm. I think it would have to be the ‘school stuff’. All of J’s IEP plans, lunch number, report cards, progress notes. Right now they are all tossed into a drawer that MUST be sorted through and organized.

Loretta´s last blog post…How can I keep from singing?

20 Sandy January 31, 2009 at 7:08 am

This is a terrific tool! My biggest organizing challenge is my husband’s filing system, aka piling system. I’m definitely an organizer, but my husband’s method of organization requires about 20 or 30 piles of papers, receipts, mail, etc. He knows exactly which pile papers are in (most of the time), but I’d love to get those piles out of sight.

21 Pat January 31, 2009 at 7:10 am

I would say that paper clutter and kid clutter are both huge challenges. We try to have a party now and then to get things picked up and put away. This looks like a handy tool for busy moms!

22 kari January 31, 2009 at 7:10 am

my biggest challenge is to stay on top of the paperwork and not just stick it places until I can make the right folder and find the right spot for it =)

Definately all the paper. I have a huge green basket of paper that I need to file or do something with but never seem to find the time. Uggg. I need a better system than this!

My heart is fluttering right along with yours, especially since my biggest challenge is paper clutter!!!! Receipts, mail and all sorts of things I’m to scared to throw away end up piled on the entry way table. The Neat Receipt would be a dream come true!

27 Mal January 31, 2009 at 7:18 am

My biggest organizing challenge is DEFINITELY receipts and mail. I am super organized with my craft supplies, clothes and laundry, and even kitchen. It’s just that the house gets overrun with papers!

29 Jennifer January 31, 2009 at 7:20 am

My biggest challenge is to keep the piles of paper under control! It starts out small- a magazine or two on the coffee table, then before I know it there’s so much clutter I can’t stand it.

30 Rachel B. January 31, 2009 at 7:20 am

“my” table. It is actually the formal dining table shoved in a corner of a room. Usually it holds my laptop, the scanner, sewing stuff, bible study materials, various knitting projects, awana paperwork, receipts, books to list for sale, library books, cooking magazines….plus anything that is kids hands off.
But if we have an extended family meal then EVERYTHING gets moved off to Somewhere else. And afterwords the most critical stuff gets moved back right away and the rest sits. The table frequently looks a mess and I am currently sorting out the pile of ‘rest’ that got ignored for so long.

31 Wendy January 31, 2009 at 7:21 am

My biggest challenge is the coats/shoes/socks (don’t ask)/mittens/etc. I’m from New England, and this winter has been particularly snowy. And we do not have a mudroom. In fact the entrance to our house is very *not* conducive to setting up hooks and a landing strip for our stuff.

32 Jenni January 31, 2009 at 7:23 am

Paperwork is the worst around here! It all gets thrown into a cabinet and if I’m lucky, filed every couple of months…or longer. My husband just started a new business, so this would be VERY helpful in keeping track of all his receipts!

What’s your biggest organizing challenge at home?

Maintenance. My kids have a way of undo-ing everything, :)

And my kitchen desk -school papers have a way of breeding like rabbits.

35 TheresaB January 31, 2009 at 7:28 am

We cyberschool, so ALL of the kids school papers are all over the place! I’m never quite sure how long to keep them. Also, with 3 kids that LOVE to draw, I have a stack a mile high of drawings! I keep thinking I need to scan them all and do a digital layout and have yearly art books printed out.

My recipes. I can’t seem to get them organized or in a uniform format.

37 Susan S. January 31, 2009 at 7:33 am

What a great product! I think the hardest clutter for me to tackle are the little things (papers, cards, etc.) that don’t have a specific home both at work in my third grade classroom and at home. Oh! I just had a great idea- this would be a great tool to use in the classroom – no more stuffing the filing cabinet!

38 Susan S. January 31, 2009 at 8:03 am

UPDATE: I just visited the Neat Company website and I want this product!!!! This would be perfect for my classroom and home.

39 Amanda January 31, 2009 at 7:35 am

Incoming bills, paper, newspaper. paper. Ugh. It’s all over. Help.

40 Karen January 31, 2009 at 7:35 am

My biggest challenege is PAPER WORK! By far, all of that paper that comes into the house and needs to be kept for this or that, sorted, filed, called about, referenced, calendared….

I despise it.

That receipt deali-hoo would be perfect!

47 Mamaloup January 31, 2009 at 7:47 am

My biggest organizing challenge is my kitchen island! My laptop and associated cords live there, as does an assortment of random kiddie things and anything in my hands that needs somewhere else to be…lol. Doesn’t leave much room for things like ummmm, food prep!!

Thanks!

I just stumbled across your blog last night & I love it! Stayed up waaaay too late last night to read — Saturday morning is difficult on so little sleep! :o )

My biggest challenges are a) keeping the kid-stuff under control and b) keeping papers under control. I have two children 3+4 and mountains of unnecessary/useless stuff for them. (Stuff I did not buy for them, it all comes from the outside no matter how I try to stop it)
Paperwork? I have no real desk to speak of, and if I leave anything out the kids commandeer it for artwork. Eek!

52 Bethany January 31, 2009 at 7:54 am

Seriously, it is the papers. They just pile up everywhere!

My biggest organization challenge? 2 home based business’s, a full time job, a toddler and a husband…need I say more? The paperwork that is involved in managing all of the above is overwhelming. I have boxes of receipts that need to be organized for tax purposes. Boxes for papers that need to be filed. Boxes with magazine tear outs to use as inspiration for my portfolio and for creating mood boards. All of this among all the fabric and supplies I have, well, let’s just say that this tool would be oh-so-welcome by all in my household. Thank you!

58 Kellie January 31, 2009 at 8:03 am

My biggest organization challenge is my daughter’s room. She has stuff every where. I should probably just get rid of a bunch of stuff- she is a pack rat though and notices everytime anything goes in the good will box!

59 rachel January 31, 2009 at 8:03 am

My biggest challenge is everything paper!

60 laurieann January 31, 2009 at 8:07 am

My biggest organizing challenge is keeping track of all of the bills after they’ve been paid!

64 Amy L. January 31, 2009 at 8:10 am

Our biggest challenge is space! Our former office is now the baby’s room – and the office is actually a “cloffice” (closet office). We have so much paperwork to fit into just a couple of filing cabinets – digitizing receipts would make a HUGE difference to our sense of organization and reduced clutter!

65 Traciatim January 31, 2009 at 8:13 am

My biggest problem is all of my spouses stuff. She runs a small aesthetics business and has supplies, papers, and junk everywhere. Our bathroom shelves are so packed with stuff you can’t move anything without knocking other things over. Our bedroom looks like a store with all the stuff. We moved from a 700 sq foot apartment 2 years ago to an 1150 sq foot house, and now I’m hearing about space problems all the time when really the problem is stuff.

72 Janet January 31, 2009 at 8:26 am

My biggest organizing challenge is definitely the paper explosion of mail, school papers, receipts and drawings that cover my desk.

73 Cara January 31, 2009 at 8:29 am

I have two that rank about the same: staying on top of folding laundry (actually doing laundry is fine, it’s the folding that kills me!) and keeping on track of daily receipts/monthly budget recording.

74 Jennifer K January 31, 2009 at 8:29 am

Paper is my biggest organizing problem! My desk gets piled with paper and I try to file things, but everything seems to go into a “to be filed” pile that I rarely get to. I would love to get everything I want to save on the computer to free up the space!

75 Andrea January 31, 2009 at 8:29 am

Papers, bills, stuff I think I might need. Those all need constant vigilance or they will overtake my desk. One thing I did recently was to go through all our owner’s manuals, and search for online copies that I could save on our computer, so I could pitch the hard copies that were filling up a box at home.

81 Erin January 31, 2009 at 8:37 am

Definitely paper. I sometimes have it organized into piles, but then when company is coming I end up dumping it all in one bin. When I need to find something it can take forever – what a waste of precious time!

82 Kristine January 31, 2009 at 8:37 am

Not paper clutter, but “cheap” clutter. Little toys from bday parties, store day at school, the rare happy meal, garage sale finds from my ILs. I’m trying to de-clutter this am!!

83 Heidi January 31, 2009 at 8:38 am

My biggest challenge is definitely my paper. It seems it accumulates faster than I can get it into file folders. And then the folders get so full that it’s hard to actually file them without getting paper cuts! lol
