Welcome to our home… We’ve lived here a little over four months, and our renovations still aren’t done. Downstairs half bath? Still looks scary. Office? Barely set up. Baseboards throughout the house? Not even close.
I’ve decided to stop caring, at least for the holidays. Home renovation is a long-term process, and as much as I wish we installed our fireplace before Christmas, I’ve realized that I’ll miss out on the fun of transforming an ugly house into a lovely home if I focus on the Still Not Done.
I’ve also decided that’s not reason enough to show you a bit of the holiday in our home. So… come on in! Watch out for the Matchbox cars beneath your feet.

Thanks for visiting! Next time, I’ll do my best to have finished hanging all the bathroom mirrors.
This is part of my friend Myquillyn’s annual Christmas Tour of Homes. And speaking of—she and I podcasted this week, so enjoy the last Simple Mom Podcast of 2012! We mostly laugh—but talk about our favorite Christmas goodies to bake with our kids, speaking and blogging, and what it’s like being an INTJ. Join us and listen, won’t you?

Gorgeous Tsh! I love that Joy To The World print. Reminds me of National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, which all sorts of awesome.
Merry Christmas to you and yours. X

Um…. EVERY time Kyle passes it, he sings in his best Chevy Chase operetta, “Jooooooy toooo the worrrrrrrld!”
Oh. My. Stars. We have that print, too (also thanks to you) and Christopher does the exact same thing

Oh, and I should add that it’s a free download here.
Sweet as a nut! My hubs will be stoked. I have videos from the past few Christmases of him doing the Chevy Chase on the way to cut down our tree. Love it!

Where can I find the “Joy to the World” download? Sorry, I’m sure it’s obvious, but I can’t find it. Thanks!
If you follow my link in the comment above (where I say “here”), it’ll take you there. Hope that helps.
Thank you!
printed that this year too. Love it! The decor looks super fun! Wish we could see it in person.
You’re always welcome!
There are so many really great decorating ideas in your photos. Your “not done” house looks pretty great to me!
Love the Christmas lights in the lanterns, I know what I am looking for this yard sale season. Place looks great. I do the candy canes in a green canning jar too! I like tying a gold ribbon around the mouth of the jar for a little extra flare.

It is, isn’t it! Though I’m borderline ENTP, too. I waver on the E/I and the J/P frequently…
Don’t feel bad about not being as far as you would like on your home rennovations; my husband and I have owned our fixer upper for three years and you are probably farther along than we are! (we have an almost three year old and a seven month old though so I try to remember that taking care of them and keeping them happy is more important than having everything perfect)
You decorations are beautiful. Are the paper mache birds homemade? They are lovely.
They’re actually from Mercy House Kenya’s shop. I LOVE them.
Using that ski to hang the stockings is BRILLIANT!!! In the last 2 years we have all taken up cross country skiing, and I love this idea to work our hobby into our decor! And everything else is lovely too
Thanks for sharing!

Love the ski and stockings!! What is a sweater garland? Everything looks so lovely.

A few years ago I cut up an old wool sweater into squares, then strung them all together. Voila.

You’re welcome! It’s a fun post to do, especially when my brain is too fried to be deep or thoughtful.
Yes, I totally understand! The line from “The Wizard of Oz” seems most appropriate for me after this past week. “I’m melting! I’m melting! I’m melting!” I am mush right now physically and mentally but with a smile on my face. Have a great 2013!

It looks so nice. I love the star fish on the tree. That is such a cute idea.

Ohhh…the light lanterns are a nice simple design idea. Just moved this week so I knew a tree wasn’t in the plans. I mustered up 4 strands of white lights and did a project featured over at simple design. Moving won’t mess up my holiday! (well…not *too* much).
Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your home – these decorations are great. Beautiful family portrait of all of you at the end!
did you make the icy branches in the jar? if yes, please share how. they are enchanting! your decirations are far from scrappy! and your home is certainly not scrappy as we all know from reading. and the pictures don’t capture anyting scrappy about the house.
Oh, I don’t mean scrappy in a bad way! I mean it in a we-make-a-lot-of-it-ourselves kind of way.
But nope, I didn’t make those icy branches. I think either Hobby Lobby or Michael’s did.
I surely enjoy your “mantlepiece”—-made in Norway!
Thanks for the tour. Lovely decor!
what a happy home! i love all the christmas touches, especially the “joy to the world” map!

Fun! Where did you get the stockings?!? They’re exactly what I’ve been looking for. Would love to find something similar….
My amazing mother-in-law knitted them. She knits them for everyone in the family. Insane, no?
I was so hoping those stockings were store-bought!! I just love them!
It’s simply gorgeous, Tsh! You guys have stellar taste, so you will NEVER go wrong, no matter the vibe you’re going with. I want that Joy to the World piece in my house right now.

Your decorations are so festive and beautiful. I especially love the birds. My tree, for about the last 5 years, has been decorated with nothing but birds that I have picked up, either on vacations or extra special and unique ones. Hope the family has a wonderful Christmas.
Okay, we have to do this every year now because I LOVE see what everyone’s homes look like! What fun!
And that wee little knitted sweater ornament – so cute!
Merry Christmas, friend! Thanks for letting us in for a visit
