Another Non-Scrapbook Project with Scrapbook Paper

by Tsh on April 15, 2008

in making your home a haven

I guess all this scrapbook paper my mother-in-law brought with her has gotten me inspired again. Here’s my latest art project:

circles.jpg

The colors are more muted in real life. The orange isn’t so orange, and the robin’s egg blue and chocolate brown really complement our room’s colors. Oh, and the splotches aren’t accidental – that’s the way the paper is, and that’s how I like it.

I completely, 100% got this idea from the wonderful Heidi at Mt. Hope Chronicles. She’s so crafty – I love everything she does. Go spend time at her blog. Here’s hers:

It’s better than mine.

I was going to write a how-to tutorial on this, but it’s too easy. I simply cut out circles (using a cereal bowl as the template) and glued them on. They’re all the same size, and they’re all (mostly) evenly spaced on the canvas.

Frugal, original, easy artwork to fill an otherwise blank wall in the master bedroom. Check.

A few hours exercising my creative juice and refreshing my bones. Check.

I have so much scrapbook paper, I may have to do one of these for each room in our place.

Works for me!

This cool. You can do the same thing with family pictures.

Looks great! I bet the colors are even nicer in person. Love blue/orange/chocolate together. This is one of my favorite projects I’ve done. Inexpensive, easy, personal…. and looks good!

Neat! I will have to try that out after our move. I have a canvas on hand already. I used it’s partner to make a collage of Thomas pictures for my boy’s room.

@Chris – Great idea!
@Heidi – Thanks! I think I will do another one with another color scheme. But yep, this color combo is one of my newest faves.
@Awesome Mom – Ooh, you’ll have to post your creation and let me know when you get around to it! When do you move?

That is adorable. What size canvas did you use? Oh and what type of glue? hehe I have some wall space where one of these would look good. :)

@Audra Marie – I’d say the canvas is about 3 ft x 4 ft or so. And I just used Elmer’s glue! I thought about Mod Podging it on top, but I haven’t yet. This is so easy it’s almost embarassing, really. :)

I liked this idea when I first saw it, but didn’t know where I would put something like this…UNTIL you mentioned your master bedroom. YES! I have a huge blank space above my bed. This is perfect!!! Thanks for sharing your inspiration and Heidi’s blog.

I need to know what kind of sealer to use. I used Mod Podge on one but it smeared some of the red paper into the white (bled).

What kind of glue to stick the paper onto the canvas, then what kind of sealer?

avatar simplemom

@Linda – I use Mod Podge as well. Perhaps it’s the type of scrapbook paper you used? I’m not sure why mine worked differently. If you find a solution, please let me know!
