I just finished reading the chapter on Habit 6 and as I got to the end I read that Stephen often teaches habits 4,5 and 6 before teaching habits 2 and 3. This got me thinking...
My family is going through a lot right now. There are three adults in the house (My husbands sister is 20 and lives with us) and we all have very different personalities. I'm reading this book and enjoying the book club and discussion and I'm desperately wanting my husband to read it too. Well, last night we all got into a discussion that didn't end well for any of us. I wasn't happy with some things my husband said and him and his sister didn't finish the night out well either. Today things are better but I need them to read this book so we can all start applying these principles. We could be such an amazing family if we did that. In our argument last night I just kept thinking "Seek first to understand.... then to be understood". It was really what we all needed to do.
So, I say all of that to ask this...
If you were in my situation would you start at the beginning? I am thinking of getting everybody on board with reading the book and having a once a week family discussion on it. My husband has already said he would and I'm honestly going to tell my sister in law that it's a requirement. I'll even make dessert for our discussion nights! I'm thinking we should read the Forward, Habit 1, Habit's 4, 5 and 6 and then go back to Habits 2 and 3. Then we can finish up with 7 and the rest of the book.
It just seems to make sense... get the understanding and synergy underway before trying to sit down together and write a mission statement.
I know that probably came out in a jumbled mess but does it make sense to anybody else?
Is there anybody else in my position?
