It’s probably no surprise to you that I’m a minimalist. I shudder at clutter, and I much prefer having one high-quality item than several mediocre versions of something similar. My idea of a heavenly wardrobe is 10 pieces that fit me perfectly and won’t ever wear out.
So when Epson wanted me to give their latest printer a whirl, I thought sure, it might be nice to have one gadget that does a lot of things well. And while I’m not much of a gadget fiend, my husband is, so he was more than a little excited to try it out. Let’s just say that it didn’t take me long to truly appreciate the gift I’d been given.

I’m impressed with the thing. It’s cool. And because it does so much so quickly, it really does make life at home simpler and more productive.
Here’s why I love the Epson Artisan 800 printer:
1. The high-definition photo-quality is outstanding.
We’ll never have to order photos with an outside source again. I can even edit our photos from the printer – eliminate the red-eye, restore old photos, add text, and more. The plus side for me is that now I actually get around to developing photos, instead of just burning them straight to a disc, probably never to be seen again. (And since we’re currently staying with my parents while we’re stateside for a few months, it’s satisfying the never-ceasing grandparent’s thirst for photos.)
Oh, and it prints photos quickly – we’re talking 10 seconds. So if you think you might order (or still win!) your Christmas photo cards from Chickpea Designs, you can print them at home as high-definition photos.
2. It’s wi-fi.
Yep, I never have to connect my laptop and mess with a tangle of cords. This keeps my workspace cleaner, more organized, and more functional. And because it’s wi-fi, anyone who brings their laptop to your home can easily print without having to connect (which yes, means you should password-protect your internet connection so that your neighbors don’t start randomly printing their family photos – wouldn’t that be weird?).

3. It’s pretty.
The LCD keypad is sleek and easy to use, and the printer is unobtrusive, so I don’t mind having it out on display. A big deal for me.

4. It does lots of things.
It scans, it copies, it faxes, it prints double-sided, it creates coloring book pages, it prints ruled and graph paper for school, it prints directly onto CDs and DVDs, it brings you coffee in the morning. Okay, not the coffee, but everything else. And I have this suspicion that it does even more than I’m aware of. We’ll see.
5. One of you will win one. Seriously.

Epson and One2One Network is graciously giving one Simple Mom reader the new Artisan 800 printer. Are you as excited as I am? I wasn’t lying when I said November is a big month of giveaways over here!
Here’s how to win:
1. Leave a comment on this post, answering this question: What gadget can’t you live without?
2. For a second entry, email me at simplemomblog (at) gmail (dot) com with the secret code in the email’s subject line (no need to write anything in the email’s body, as it won’t be read). To find the secret code, make sure you’ve subscribed to Simple Mom’s feed either via RSS or via email, and look in the footer of any post. I promise you – the code is there.
3. For a third entry, mention this giveaway on your blog, and make sure I somehow find out about it.
This giveaway will end on Wednesday, November 12, midnight CST.
I hope you win!

I love my iphone!
I have to go with the ever popular digital camera. T o think I resisted getting one at first! I was pretty much forced into using one when my 35 mm camera broke and my husband got me a digital one as a gift. My initial hesitaton quickly faded away. I love having an unlimited amount of “film” available to take pictures of my three darling little boys (oh and the rest of the family too
. I love being able to see the picture instantly. I love not having to print out every picture I take unless I want to–no more clutter or disorganized/undated photos. I love being able to send a photo to my mom right away via e-mail. Digital cameras are a photo loving mom’s dream come true.

I’m going to have to go with my iPod. When mine died a few months ago, I ordered a new one within days – I just couldn’t live without it any more!

I can’t live without my Nikon dSLR camera. I love taking pics, they’re the cheapest souvenir ever! I don’t have a nice printer though….

Id say the one I love the most is Skype because it lets me talk to and SEE my two kids living overseas, but in reality, without the old desk computer, there would be no skype would there? then Id say the blog world is my next favorite, but again, without my trusty HP, there would be no blogs…hmmmmm I guess it’s my little gray friend the computer. arggh.
Oh, my gosh, my camera. It has become a part of me, like my wedding band… I feel naked without it.
i couldn’t live without my cell phone. boring and simple but true

Easy. I cannot live without my TiVo. Best thing ever.
I couldn’t live without my MP3 player…at the time I was too cheap to buy an IPod. For the money, my MP3 is soooo great to have. I only planned on using it for a road trip to Florida 2 years ago, but since then I use it constantly. When doing housework, exercising, working in the garden, ALL the time!!!
I’m a gadget girl… so hard to choose just one.
But I think it would have to be my Nikon digital camera. I love that thing!

I need a new printer because it is getting harder and harder to find ink cartridges for mine. bummer. so i am crossing my fingers.

Jennifer’s last blog post…Have I told you how wonderful she is?
The gadget that I can’t live without is my laptop. It was a Mother’s Day present and I think I’m addicted to the thing. I LOVE being portable, and now I can read Simple Mom all day long! (if only you’d post hourly so I’d have something new to read).
The gadget I use the most daily is probably my cell phone. But I also love our laptop and the HD DVR I got my husband for his birthday. I didn’t think HD would be that big of a difference, but he’s converted me!
I don’t have a particular gadget, but after we lost our electricity for 5 days in Sept. I truly missed my stove! And my sons did too! Grills are wonderful but not for cooking everything on it.
One thing I have really grown to love recently is my Google calendar through gmail! It is soooo nice and I love the ability to organize things by color!
What can I not live without? My immersion blender…seriously! When I had my oldest son, I decided I was going to make my own baby food. When Ben was born with Down Syndrome, I didn’t know that his muscle tone would make it difficult for him to eat…I pureed everything in sight for two years until he really started to take off on table food. It saved us a ton of money, and made dinner time a lot easier…I just popped out the hand-held stick blender and whirred up whatever we ate. When my second son was born, six more months of blending followed. We would have spent a fortune in baby food were it not for my little electric baby. Best. Invention. Ever. Hands down.

Oh, definitely my lovely Canon digital camera!
I can’t live without my sirius satellite radio. It distracts and entertains me on long commutes around the beltway.
Thanks for the opportunity to win. My husband is just starting a small business as an independent photographer and this printer would really help him get off the ground.

I love my Medela Freestyle hands free pump. It’s an essential so my wrists don’t hurt while i’m pumping, and i can pump while i commute to work, pump while at work, and still provide breastmilk to my little baby while i’m away from him. =)
I’m not sure how I’d live without my microwave. I use it several times every day, and it sure speeds things up!

The gadget that I can’t live without is THIS PRINTER! Oh, I suppose technically I can live without it since I’ve managed to do so this far. But after reading you and all the other Blissful gals raving about it, I NEED ONE!
The other can’t live without is my digital camera. No question.

I cannot live without my DSLR. As a burgeoning photographer, I need to have it by my side. You NEVER know when a shot of a lifetime will present itself.
That looks like an AMAZING printer. I am hoping to sell photos on etsy soon, and it looks like it would be perfect to print photos here rather than having someone else do it. Wonderful!
Also, I must say that I love clean look of your blog. This is something that I was going for, but couldn’t really find what I liked. I think I might have something built for me.

my iphone is pretty much my brain. sad, but very true.
Oh, we could not survive without the digital camera.
Fox’s Momma’s last blog post…What a week!
The gadget I could not live without is my laptop. It is my connection to the rest of the world. I live on an island, eight miles “out to sea”, with limited ferry service. I order groceries, run TWO businesses, schedule appointments, bank, do research (on things like ‘how to cut your children’s hair at home’, ‘Is this an ear infection my daughter is suffering with, and do I need to get her off the island in 8 to 10 foot seas’, and ‘teach yourself to…(fill in the blank)’). This is no toy! I truly could not live where I do without it; there is no other piece of equipment that could replace it.
My laptop (although a desk top would conceivably be workable if we had one instead of a laptop.)
I could not live with out my laptop. I am even trying to come up with a way to still use it in an extended power outage!
I can’t live without my digital camera!! I take bazillions of photos of my Sweet Baby James.

Camera. I can’t live without a camera, be it old fashioned with roll of film (in case the digital gives up the ghost!) or digital. We are a family that lives on two continents, in three separate nations and we wouldn’t be able to keep feeling a family if I didn’t take and send LOADS of pictures to the various grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, new girlfriends, etc. etc I think IT glues us all together, giving us an excuse to interrupt each other’s life, immortalizing moments we’ll need to savour in the intervening years (can’t be everywhere every year), and so on.
I couldn’t live without my computer. I could go without a lot, but after so many years of connectivity, I’d sorely miss its lack.
I can’t live without the Epson Artisan 800. I have been eyeing one of these babies for a while now. The heaven’s opened when I read this post.
But if I have to choose an item that I already have, it would be my DSLR. I am in love! What goes better with my DSLR? A photo printer, of course!
Thanks!
It’s not a tech gadget but I cannot live without my coffepot.
The gadget I can’t live without is my iPhone.
But I would so, so, SO love a wifi printer!!!
(And can I tell you how brilliant this is for increasing subscribers? I bow down to you!)
I can’t live without my Ipod. How did we ever carry around bulky walkmans?

I’d go with my laptop, but part of me thinks that’s cheating, so I’ll say my digital camera. Living overseas really broke me of some gadget addictions though…cell phone, iPod, etc. Hope y’all are doing well back here
Say hello to Chick for me
Definitely the laptop. A new printer would enhance my life considerably!
I can not live without my cell phone. I remember a day when I could, but now I freak out if I realize I forgot it.
I would have to say that I can’t live without my cellphone. I love my camera and my mac too, but without that phone I would feel totally lost!
I guess my gadget would be macbook. It’s my internet, writing (freelance writer), finances, gaming and more!
the gadget i can’t live without? my laptop for sure. while i go in fits and spurts with my camera (always wanting to take more pictures, hating to take the time to upload them!), i cannot function without my laptop within my reach at all times!
robyn’s last blog post…an introduction of sorts
The gadget that I cannot live without would be my camera. I love capturing special moments.
I cannot do without my digital camera! Its so easy to snap the unsuspected photo where ever you are and make sure you have captured it perfectly! I’m hoping to upgrade my SLR to digital after Christmas!
Posted on my blog too!
I couldn’t live without my laptop. I would miss some of my other gadgets, but I think I would go into withdrawal without a computer. I use it for so many things – finding recipes, printing off coloring pages, answering the questions my daughter asks to which I don’t know the answer, printing coupons … the list goes on and on.
Can’t live without my digital camera…i can’t seem to stop taking pictures of my baby’s eyelashes growing LOL!
My bluetooth! With a 2 year old and infant, it sure comes in handy when my hands are full!
The one item I couldn’t live without is my blackberry. I definitely have a crackberry addiction! My gmail and my work email both com into it as well as CNN and facebook, I am truly obsessed.
I could not live without my camera. I got a Sony a100 about a year ago. I am not able to take much better pictures of my children. I would never go back to my old camera again.
Lia’s last blog post…The bottom of the box
I absolutely couldn’t live without my digital camera. I capture as many of the cute moments that we have every day that I can. My daughter is not even a year old and to date, I’ve taken over 2,000 pictures. I don’t want to miss a thing. I’ll just have to make sure I’m as “shutter happy” with our following children so they don’t feel left out.
Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway! Have a great day!
Wow! Too many! I need my printer/copier for school (although this one is much nicer than mine!) and I need my MP3 player for working out and cleaning.
Oooh, I would have to say that I can’t live without my phone! I use it as a watch, I text friends and family all the time cuz their on the same plan, and I take photos of the kids. Love it!
I’m really am not a gadget person, definently a minimalist! But I love my computer and sewing machine!

I can’t live without my computer- and internet too:)
I can’t live without my Palm. I love having it keep track of recurring events and to-do’s for me. It’s easily portable. It has a really cool shopping list feature. I can jot down little notes and ideas and process them later. I love it!
I never thought I would say it, but my iPhone. The gadget I got simply because I HAD to have one (even though I never knew what I was going to do with it). I am a stay at home mom, who didn’t even have a cell phone prior to this, so why did I need a $200+ phone. Being a closet gadget freak (and especially for apple products) I really wanted one, and it wasn’t hard to talk my Husband into a matching set for the two of us.
Now I can’t live without it. In 3 short months it has become my constant companion. It has replaced my living room sterio with just a set of speakers in the kitchen (much less cluttered). It is my link to the outside world with my Twitter client. It is my ability to call and see if my Husband wants to meet for lunch while I’m out running errands. I get my emails there, check my favorite blogs, everything. By far, my iPhone. Right after that would be my MacBook. Yeah, I’m an Apple person.
I never thought I’d say this, but i can’t live without my iphone. It combines so many functions, all in one place, and it keeps my kids occupied when we are waiting at the doctor or in line to vote!
My iPhone. I wouldn’t have guessed it would become indispensable so quickly.
I can’t live without my camera. Love it.
as cliche as it sounds… my phone. it’s my alarm, organizer, clock, and communication with the outside world as a single mom and full time student. i’m completely disequilibrated without it!

I can’t live without my Zen player. I listen to it everyday on my way to and from work. Thanks Edie
I could live without any gadgets. Truly I could. However, without my computer, I’d not be able to run my home-based business. After working for 8 years as a designer in a busy newspaper office, I began teaching myself web design, just as a hobby at first. Someone noticed my work and offered me a freelance job, which I accepted. That one job led to others and before long, I was able to quit my job at the newspaper and work from home, which made it lots easier to keep tabs on my 3 kids. Being able to work from home literally changed my life and those of my family members. That was 12 years ago (and 4 grandchildren ago) and I’m still doing web development at home, as well as digital stock photography and the occasional wedding photo gig. Could I use this awesome printer? You bet! I’ve got an older, low-end Epson that I have to nudge to keep working. This printer would enable me to expand my services as a photographer, and I’m drooling over it! Epson makes the best printer around, and it’s all I’ve ever owned. Please, please, please, pick me!
My camera, laptop and cellphone are givens…I can’t live without our cuticle nippers. I have a terrible habit of biting my cuticles if they are not trimmed down. I am not one for acrylics or even fingernail polish but I prefer it if my fingers do not look malled.

I cannot live without my DVR. My husband and I don’t fight about the TV and we can record 2 things and watch a third! So completely awesome.
I can’t live without my iphone. I don’t know how I functioned before!
This printer looks like a winner! Hope I am too!
I can’t live without a computer, preferably a laptop. It has made my life so much simpler!
It’s a little trite, but I have to say my computer (read: Internet). I’ve become so accustomed to having knowledge and opportunity at my fingertips, so much so that I have withdrawals if I’m unable to use it. In many ways it’s both a time saver and waster for me but regardless of that drawbacks, it’s a necessity.

If the contest is open to Canadian Moms, I would love to be entered in it! I never get photos printed either, and my family gets annoyed that eveything I send them is digital for the 7 kids.

Hands down: My MacBook. I cannot go a single day without it.

I would love to say something really profound, but right now, as a mom to three (including a 6 month old that doesn’t sleep through the night) who is still nursing and working full time, my favorite gadget is actually my coffee maker!
Eep, I forgot to add this…
My favourite gadget is my camera. Both hubby and I have bought good Nikons to take pictures of our multitude and I have it almost permanently attached to my neck all day.
Rosie : )
I couldn’t live without my computer, even if it is a dinosaur and takes up half my desk. Being a work at home mom, it’s my connection to the outside world, and to clients.
My digital camera is my favorite gadget. We have a daughter with autism and it is a challenge to get a good picture of her. How I love to see instantly whether we need a retake!
What a great printer! Thank you for the chance to win one!
As for my favorite gadget, does Google count? I know you can’t hold it in your hand, but Google does it all!! I use it daily for everything from to-do lists, email, documents, blogging, planning and searching the web to organizing digital photos. Google has made my life so much easier!
My laptop – search for recipes in the kitchen, look for a job, educational games for the kids, watch our next president speak, and coordinate my life via gmail and google calendar. Now that it’s being repaired, I’m a bit lost!

This may sound corny – but one of my favorite ‘gadgets’ is a stainless wire whisk. I love to cook and I’m always making homemade pancakes, muffins, cookies, and breads. Sooo, the wire whisk gets a lot of use in my house. Thanks for the opportunity to win this great gadget!
my digital camera
My MacBook. I love it and since I’m a writer and fellow blogger I use it daily (hourly, almost). If I win the printer…I hope it’s Mac compatible!

I can’t live without my laptop. It’s my connection to my family and the world; it’s my way of supporting myself (I’m a software developer); it’s my portal to creativity (I love to write); it’s my brain (I’m a list maker); it’s my financial future (our Dave Ramsey financial plan is on our spreadsheets.) I could go on for pages – did I mention that I LOVE my laptop?
