What’s your Saturday morning routine?
There’s not much sweeter in life than a lazy Saturday morning with the sunrise peeking in the window and coffee brewing in the French press. The kiddos are giggly and silly in our bed, and we’ve got breakfast baking in the oven.

Dutch Babies are a simple, splendid Saturday morning treat. It dirties one bowl, it bakes while you lazily sip your coffee, kids love how puffy it emerges from the oven, and it tastes divine with cinnamon and fruit.
Why not make it tomorrow morning? Have a leisurely breakfast with the family in your jammies.
Dutch Babies
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 6 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
Preheat oven to 450 degrees fahrenheit (225 degrees celsius). Pour melted butter in a large casserole pan. Whisk the remaining ingredients in a bowl and pour into the pan (don’t stir the butter into the batter). Bake for 20-30 minutes, depending on your oven (it will be very puffy).
Serve with cinnamon, powdered sugar, syrup, apples, strawberries, honey, or whatever you can think of.

I’m thankful that I have gotten out of my “dutch babies every weekend and possibly during the week” phase I was in a few months ago…I cannot just eat a 1/2 or a 1/4…I must eat the entire thing! It’s not pretty. I still make crepes regularly, though. No butter so not quite as bad…

That’s so funny, Jodi - we do crepes a lot, too! Another really easy breakfast recipe.

Thanks for the yummy idea! We had this for breakfast this morning, and Munchkin was very hesitant to try it at first. She said she didn’t want any, then I told her that Chickpea had it for her breakfast too…she ate it all, and asked for not only a second helping, but thirds! Maybe I need to start following your menu plan, so I can use her friend as motivation more often. ;o) She thought it was pretty great that she could eat the same thing, even though we’re so far away.

Do you know what part of the recipe makes them puff exactly ???
I had a recipe we used for years for a 6 egg version like above and have tried to do a 4 egg version now that there are fewer of us here. According to sev recipes it is 1/4 cup each of flour and milk per each egg used. It tastes good still but it never puffs. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What is a casserole pan? I googled it and found this on Amazon- but it’s $200. Just wondering if I have something similar in my cupboards already. http://www.amazon.com/All-Clad-LTD-3-Quart-Casserole-Pan/dp/B00005AL3B
