I had two sets of children 9 yrs apart. First set: young hippie mother, frequently traveling= disposables only. Second set: older, wiser, more settled+DIAPER SERVICE (Hooray!)= we didn't buy disposables. When we were given disposables, we used them with the grandparents who refused to try cloth. We bought covers on ebay, and donated them when we were all done. I'd wanted to try cloth the first time, so when I could with the younger two, I was thrilled. It helped that the last two were only 15 months apart, and we immediately got to reuse our investment. Do what works for your family.

I am enjoying reading all of these comments. We have been using cloth diapers since my dd was 3 weeks old. I have not bought a single disposable diaper since. We use them all the time - at home and on the road. I'm sure it would be a little easier to take disposables for a weekend trip, but I just don't see the point, what is one extra bag of diapers going to hurt? We use Bum Benius all in one and are in the process of switching over to the Bum Genius AIO organic with snaps. Our velcro is showing its wear, so we're going to try snaps for our 2nd child. Both my husband and I try to convince everyone we know to use cloth diapers, we just love them.

we still use cloth diapers only and this is the forth child. i'm convinced that it's more earth friendly as i air dry them. my oldest son (10y) does the diaper laundry, so i'm spoiled in regards to running down to the basement for the wash. this time around i'm trying to train my baby (5month) to use the potty, and excitingly enough it seems to work!
often dry diapers and a pee in the potty. i love to try new things...

We use cloth during the day and disposies at night. I love cloth, but am not dedicated enough to do cloth at night or on long car trips. This is a good balance for us.

I use Fuzzi Bunz and LOVE them. I've cloth diapered twins in them (as well as my first child) and they've held up great, been easy to use, been super easy to care for. We do use disposables at church and when we'll be out of the house for a while, but otherwise, it's all FB's for us. We've tried a couple of different ones, but these have been the best for us. I highly, highly, highly recommend them. My kids have had less diaper rash in them than when they're in disposables, the diapers end up being much cheaper over the long run than disposables, we have very little trash from this house of three kids who are three and under!, and they are so much softer/more comfortable than the disposables we use on occasion. They're definitely worth checking out!

Oh the dilema! :) With our first, who is now 2 1/2 we strictly used disposable. I had looked into cloth but only had considered a diapering company, to which was not available.
Now we have a 6 month old! I was a bit more educated this time on cloth and had done my research and Q & A. What worked [and is working] best for us...did you get that? WHA T WORKS BEST FOR US is for the first month or so, solely disposable. Our daughter was small and the disposable truly fit her so much better. When she got a bit bigger I would do both [more to probably ease me into the cloth-diaper system]. Now I have it down. Laundry really isn' that bad at all, an I still use disposables [always Seventh Generation--they are chlorine-free] at night and occassionaly when we are out for longer periods of time.

My advice to mom's that are debating between cloth vs. disposable is this : DO 'EM BOTH! Just try to get your system down and then try to mostly do cloth. Feel good knowing your RE-using and not just throwing away EVERY time. Overall, do what's best for you. You'll enjoy parenthood so much more, and that's what it's all about.

I use both! I try to use cloth at home during the day and then disposables at night and out & about.
