Ready to Win Some Healthy, Delicious Chocolate?

by Tsh on January 27, 2009

in giveaways

This giveaway is now closed. The winner is Melissa Walker – congratulations!

The first giveaway today is from Choffy.  What is Choffy, you may ask?

Oh my word.  I love this stuff.  Choffy is like coffee, but it’s actual 100% organic cacão beans (also known as cocoa beans), roasted to perfection.  In other words, Choffy is brewed chocolate.

Yes, you read me correctly.

coffee cup

Choffy is not only tasty, it’s healthy.  All the antioxidant value, mineral benefits, neurotransmitter rejuvenating properties, and overall health-giving qualities are found naturally in cacão beans. No sugar, no dairy, no chemicals. Just one ingredient – cacão.

In other words, this is healthy chocolate you can drink.

Cacão Beans Are Extraordinarily Nutritious

Here are just a few of the health benefits of Choffy.

theobromine versus caffeine

Theobromine: This gentle, yet long-lasting, stimulant provides you with a healthy energy lift by dilating the cardiovascular system, making the heart’s job easier. Theobromine does not affect the nervous system; therefore, it delivers energy without a crash, like one of the negative effects of caffeine.

Antioxidants: By weight, cacão contains the highest concentration of antioxidants of any food in the world – more than red wine, blueberries, açai, pomegranates, and goji berries combined. Choffy acts as a super-detoxifier, helping your body rid itself of the toxins that tax your system.

Magnesium: Cacão appears to be the best source of magnesium of any food. Magnesium is one of the great alkaline minerals, helping to support the heart, brain, and digestive system.  In addition, magnesium balances brain chemistry and builds strong bones.

Iron: Cacão contains a significant amount of iron per serving. Iron, a critical mineral in nutrition, is part of the oxygen carrying protein called hemoglobin that keeps our blood healthy.

Choffy is Easy to Brew

I love coffee, and Choffy hasn’t replaced it.  But it is a new drink we now enjoy in our family, and many people who don’t drink coffee have said that they do enjoy Choffy.

A commonly asked question is whether you can order the beans whole and grind them like you would coffee beans. The answer is no, because the cacão bean has unique properties that make it very difficult to grind. Choffy uses a special commercial grinder that has been developed to grind the bean to the proper consistency.

The Choffy website is very helpful, and includes brewing instructions, health information, and a simple ordering process.

choffy

One reader will win two 12-ounce bags of Choffy – one from Nicaragua, and one from Ivory Coast.  Here are these beans’ descriptions:

Nicaruagua: Savory, meaty, mouth watering and straight forward. A very pleasant earthy aroma, with very little astringency. Coffee-like aroma and taste with a hint of sweet spice and soft woods.

Ivory Coast: Nice depth of flavor with hints of light natural grains, dark spice with little and a classic earthy chocolate flavor.

Here’s How To Win:

Just last week my doctor suggested I start eating dark chocolate to lower my blood pressure. Woohoo! If I gave up coffee and drank choffy instead, wow, imagine how relaxed I’d be. Sounds healthy AND fantastic.

The most appealing thing to me is that I can enjoy it in the morning like coffee, but be happier because it is actually chocolate! Can’t wait to try it.

15 Hannah January 27, 2009 at 6:56 pm

“Healthy” & “Chocolate” in the same sentance is the best news I’ve heard all day!!

It gives you a healthy energy lift. I need to get away from the Mt. Dew. I often turn to it “thinking” it will give me an energy lift but I really know that it only does the opposite.

39 Maria January 27, 2009 at 10:46 pm

Wow, this sounds interesting and good! Ditto on the love of coffee and chocolate. I probably drink too much coffee, so I’m thinking this could be a good alternative sometimes. I love all the antioxidants too!

40 sararachelle January 27, 2009 at 11:11 pm

The most appealing feature to me is the high levels of antioxidants which make it a super-detoxifier.
Actually, who am I kidding? it’s BREWED CHOCOLATE! What more could you need??

41 Jessica Frey January 27, 2009 at 11:12 pm

I am allergic to caffiene, but love coffee so this sounds like a good alterative. Thank you! I will be checking out the website.

45 Angie January 28, 2009 at 4:01 am

47 Jen January 28, 2009 at 6:05 am

52 Rachel B. January 28, 2009 at 7:01 am

I would love to have another brewed drink to try. I regularly drink a cup of coffee in the morning. I have a can of teeccino for the days that I want hot drinks all day long but have already had my limit for coffee. Choffy sounds so good.

63 Lindsey January 28, 2009 at 9:31 am

The chocolate, of course!!

64 JulieS January 28, 2009 at 9:48 am

Which aspect of Choffy sounds appealing?? Which part doesn’t? Liquid chocolate without all the fuss of making hot cocoa!

65 Scott Moonen January 28, 2009 at 10:03 am

Tsh, thanks for the opportunity to enter this giveaway! I’ve long wondered why there isn’t more crossover between chocolate and coffee. Why don’t we see coffee butter and coffee bars, and why don’t we brew chocolate the way we do coffee? You’ve given a little bit of insight into this by mentioning the bean characteristics as concerns grinding. Cool!

Anyway, the feature of Choffy that sounds most appealing to me is the taste. I’d love to experience the taste of chocolate delivered in the same manner as coffee. My only disappointment would be that I couldn’t experience it with freshly ground beans! Ground coffee loses so much of its flavor after just a couple hours.

66 Eric Durtschi January 28, 2009 at 11:32 am

Good news for you then about the lack of fresh ground Choffy. Due to the massive amounts of antioxidants in Choffy, the grinds taste as fresh 6 months after being roasted and ground as they do when they are fresh roasted. In some cases it is even better because the acids in the bean mellow out a little making it slightly smoother.

I hope you enjoy it.

The most appealing feature would have to be that it has more antioxidant power than anything else added with the taste of chocolate.

76 Jennifer January 28, 2009 at 12:25 pm

Love the health benefits, more iron, less caffeine. And I love to try new things! Will be interested to see how the cost compares to coffee.
