Columnists

As of 2009, Simple Mom has proudly welcomed a fresh team of writers who know their stuff.  Once a month, they’ll bring you their spin and expertise on an area that they’re simply passionate about.

Corey Allan

Corey wishes he could live in the mountains and still have a view of the ocean, that way he and his wife could choose to ski or lay on the beach each day. For now, he lives in the city where he is a husband, father, writer, speaker, and family therapist. He believes you can get more out of marriage. That’s what his blog, Simple Marriage is all about. Corey has been married to his wife Pam for 15 years and they have 2 kids. He has a Ph.D. in Family Therapy, and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

Maya Bisineer

When Maya quit her corporate job to stay home with her two girls, little did she know that parenthood would offer more fun and learning than her corporate job could ever promise!  These days, Maya is living out her childhood dream of being a Broadway artist by singing, dancing and performing with her kids (at home). Her love for kids, combined with her passion for storytelling, has resulted in her most recent startup Memetales, a children’s picture book bazaar. When Maya gets a break from being mom and entrepreneur, she loves obsessing about the number of bags of trash produced by the household, and figuring out more ways of living rich while being frugal.  Maya loves all things tech and is a self-proclaimed geek. Don’t worry if you cannot figure her out, since she constantly is trying to do so herself.  Behind the scenes is a doting husband and her ever faithful four-legged friends (two lovely German Shepherds and a handsome cat), who do their best to keep her sane amidst all her craziness.

Aimée Wimbush-Bourque

Growing up in an artistic family, Aimée has poured her creativity into cooking ever since she could hold a spoon.  Her enthusiasm earned her the Lieutenant Gouverneur’s Award in culinary school—not to mention the irksome nickname ‘Martha Stewart’.  Before her children arrived, Aimée worked as a personal chef and was happy to have her life revolve around food. After she fell in love with motherhood and determined to never return to work, she married her two passions by becoming a food/mommy blogger. She still does what she loves best, only now she has two little helpers to keep her on her toes. Not surprisingly, she’s busier as a home manager than she ever was in the fine dining industry!  Aimée’s rural upbringing on Canada’s West Coast instilled a permanent connection to nature and the simple things in life; camping trips, apple picking and digging worms in the kitchen garden are part of passing that bond on to her boys. She has traveled to over sixteen countries on four continents, yet still gets itchy feet; her fondness of travel only rivaled by her dedication to food (read: bacon).  On days when there are too many cloth diapers to fold, Aimée wishes she could escape to her parent’s farm, but usually copes by baking something sweet. Writing from Montréal, she journals her kitchen adventures at Under the High Chair.

Lisa Byrne

Lisa is the wife of a wonderful Irishman and the mother of a two-year-old firecracker son and 7-month-old sparky daughter.  They are the most demanding and dazzling teachers she’s had so far in this wild journey of life.  Lisa’s background is packed full of science; she has a bachelor’s in Biochemistry and a master’s in Public Health and has traveled to many countries working with women and their community’s most pressing health issues.  She has a strong affinity toward anything to do with chemistry and quantum physics – but mostly is in awe of the wonders and workings of our bodies.  Staying healthy, balanced, and vibrant in a world that challenges our well-being at every turn is a passion of hers.   Lisa loves providing busy moms with support in maintaining a healthy family, balancing the work-family dynamic, and preserving a high level of self care because, as a stay-at-home Mom herself,  she knows how difficult it is to raise children and care for yourself at the same time. Lisa counsels groups, leads workshops and teaches classes on healthy living when she isn’t burping, bouncing or chasing her little ones around.  Her recent venture is The WellGrounded Life, a blog dedicated to providing busy moms with support.  To learn more about Lisa, visit her site, Byrne Health.

megan.jpgMegan Tietz

As the oldest of four children, the need to nurture comes as second nature for Megan.  In 2005, she traded in her lesson plans and grading pens for playgroups and library storytimes as she engaged in her lifelong dream of being a mom at home.  Her favorite memories from childhood involve weaving dandelions, rolling in the grass, reading for hours on end, and preparing backyard tea parties.  She strongly believes that when it comes to parenting and childhood, simple is better.  At Simple Kids, she encourages parents along the path of “uncomplicated parenting in a complex world” and is enthusiastic about building a community of parents and caregivers who share a mutual passion for intentional and mindful interaction with children.  Megan’s personal interests include reading, writing, and photography, and she blogs about faith, mothering, and natural living at SortaCrunchy.  Her husband and two beautiful daughters provide an endless amount of motivation and inspiration amidst days filled with books and baby dolls, scissors and glue, and the occasional tea party in the backyard.
