I just remembered I wanted to tell you about our tradition. My two sons developed diabetes at ages 5 and 3. Of course, we had to curtail the sweets at Christmas. Yet everyone knows food is a huge part of Christmas tradition. We found ourselves saying, "We'll have to have angel food cake because of the boys. " That's a bummer. So my mom and I put our heads together and wrote a story to be read before we eat called, "Why we have Angel Food Cake at Christmas". It is about a grandma thinking of all the significant symbols of Christmas, yet there wasn't one in the kitchen. She thought, "It should be simple and plain like the manger where Jesus was born. It should be tender and sweet like the baby himself. It should be tender and white like the angels who sang at his birth. An Angel Food Cake!" So that is why we have angel food cake at Christmas. Even the family without diabetes love this tradition. We have been doing it for more than 25 years now.

Our most creative holiday tradition is to gather with our family and spend an evening singing Christmas carols in an order that anticipates Christ's birth, celebrates his birth, the three kings coming and the joy he has brought to the world. :)

On Christmas Eve we always have a Christmas Nosh...sausages, breads, fondue (chocolate), homemade spreads (Aioli and Walnut Dip) , egg nog and mulled wine. We read the Night Before Christmas and leave cookies for Santa. My children are older; 26,15, and 12. I now have two grandchildren and my teenagers play Santa for them using all the Christmas magic tricks I created for them. On Christmas morning we have baked french toast and sausages for breakfast and forgo the traditional holiday dinner... we have these two, easier, fun meals together (in our Christmas Pajamas), making it a relaxed holiday.

My favorite tradition is decorating the tree... Each year we buy an ornament that is symbolic or representative of some event, trip or milestone during the year. We may buy it on a great a trip or there just may be something we want to remember and find an ornament that is representative of it. As we decorate the tree (as a family) we pull out the ornaments from years past (one at a time) and talk about what each one represents. I even have ornaments I made when I was 10years old in girl scouts! It just takes us back to those moments and memories and it's so fun to share them - and to remember years and Christmases past. We've begun to buy ornaments that are representative of events/milestones in our kids' lives, also - so they can carry on the tradition in their families too!~

Awesome giveway too! LOVE THE CANDLES!!!! :)

We have three new traditions. One is that the kids get PJs on Christmas Eve. Another is that the kids open a present every night...a Christmas book (I stocked up on Christmas books from 1/2 price books this past summer). The third is a handmade advent calendar with different events/things to do (watch a Christmas movie, make hot chocolate, drive around looking at lights...). We love Christmas!

Our family does probably a normal holiday tradition. We like to open one gift on christmas eve thats usually something for everyone, like a game or a movie. We also enjoy making cookies and one year we painted the little boxes you can get from michaels and gave cookies away to friends and family.
