Last winter, I gave my 3-year-old son empty syrup and dressing bottles, as well as a spray bottle, full of water tinted with food coloring. He had a blast "writing" his name in the snow and "drawing" pictures. I don't really recommend using red though - the neighbors might wonder what's been going on at your house.
